Funeral sponsor gets cremation shock

By The Nation on Sunday

Published on December 13, 2009

After spending more than Bt30,000 on a distant relative's funeral, the sponsor was shocked yesterday to peek into the coffin before the cremation and find a stranger inside.

Khomkrit Krongton, 42, from Angthong's Wiset Chai Chan district, said he hosted the funeral for Prachuap Orachon, 39, on behalf of the man's poor family.

The Chachoengsao Poh Teck Tung Foundation had notified Khomkrit that a man had died of heart failure on October 29 and had Prachuap's ID card in his pocket.

Khomkrit arranged for the foundation to deliver the body for a religious rite at the temple. The discovery of the unidentified corpse was made just before the cremation at 4pm.

Khomkrit contacted Prachuap's elder brother in Bangkok and confirmed that the dead man was still alive.

He then talked to Prachuap, who said he was recovering at his Chachoengsao home from an accident.

The ID card found on the dead man was lost by Prachuap in September.

Friend of mine cremated his mother-in-law 3 times. And paid of course. First time he saw the mother-in-law and they said 'Oh no, thats her twin sister' Second time it was 'No that's her mother'. Third time it was for real, instant karma.

I hope they find out who the deceased person is.
