Not sure of your question. What do you mean by "know about it."? You want to know why it is Romanized? It's probably from or frequents Malaysia or another boarder country which requires Romanized number plates.

I see. Yeah probably what I said then. When I crossed into Malaysia with my motorcycle I had to put a sticker on the front with English translation of my Thai license plate. (See pic) The owners probably just haven't changed it back yet, or it could be an import from somewhere else. Sometimes people like to leave foreign plate on as a vanity, status thing. They risk getting fined by the BIB, but if they are rich they probably don't care as long as they pay their 200-500 baht bribe to the police each time they get stopped.

The plates look Malay or Hong Kong. Look rather similar. If you need to know if its a legal reg thai car, you need to run the VIN code (chassisnumber) in Land transport office computer

Vehicle is from Maylasia and has no import papers just been driven across the border and not been back thats why it appears cheap owner presumably trying to unload before they have it confiscated? supose its only future in thailand is as a expensive ringer or maybe a track car.

So the car is not leagally registered in Thailand, therefore the low price. Similar Minis in Thailand cost about 400 to 500'000 Baht as second hand. If you want regiter it corectly, i guess you have to pay import tax. i guess it's not worth it!

When I used to live in KL a few years , I looked into Minis (love those lil cars), and you could get a properly restored one for less than 200,000 Baht. I'd really really want to own one someday, but not in this country :)

As for the license plate, yes, that's from Penang...

Thanks for that. The reason for the question was that old Minis make good money here in the UK now, however, nothing like that price! (£4,600).

You can also do the visarun thing with cars not registered in Thailand. Basically you repeatedly temporarily import it. There is a thread here about it, I think in the motorcycle section, but I can't find it.

Not saying that it is, but if this could possibly be a stolen car that was driven across the border.

It's not uncommon to see stolen Malaysian cars being put up for sale at a bargain in Thailand.
