New Passport And Immigration?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I was living in Thailand for about a year previously before I moved on to other parts of Asia. During my stay there, I was doing border runs every month, so there's a clear history in my passport of stamps. I also overstayed my visa twice - two accidents.

Next year I'm planning on returning there only for a couple weeks. I'll probably be crossing the Thai/Burmese border at Maesai. Here's my question: I don't want to get there and be denied entry or go through a big deal. If I get a new passport, do they check the passport number on a computer for previous overstays/entries, or do they just look through your passport to see any previous stamps? Would a new passport convince them that I hadn't been in and out before, or is there some sort of database?

Thanks.

For a short visit you need not worry.

There is no reason why they will connect the two passports, and even if

they do they will not stamp anything about previous overstays.

It is all in the computer and might come up if you wanted a year by year

visa, but even then it is pretty unlikely that it will be mentioned.

Just come and enjoy yourself.

Agree with the above.

If you do cross at Mae Sai make sure you have funds to show immigration should you be asked to show them...............next year may be different but at the present time there is a chance you will be asked to show them.
