30 Day No Visa Tourist Maximum Vs. 90 Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

i'm a bit confused about the current tourist visa regulations.

i've held a valid work permit for the past 5+ years, left my job a while ago and have been in and out of thailand, coming in on the 30 day 'no visa' stamp. i'm nearing my maximum 90 day stay (if that's correct) and wondering if i can apply for a proper tourist visa outside thailand at an embassy? or is 90 day the max regardless?

anyone else have as much trouble understanding the visa laws as i do :)

thx

If you go to Vientiane you can apply for a multi entry tourist visa which will give you around 6 months stay (3 months + 3 months), you'll have to pay for extensions though.

The rule of a maximum of 90 days in a 6 month period for visa exempt entries no longer exists. There is no limit now.

Yes, this is as I understand it but has there been any official statement to that fact or is it just another rule in Thailand that will be quietly forgotten until some new stuffed shirt beaurocrat wants to ruffle a few feathers and earn some brownie points?

No it is not a new rule its been that way for over one year. :)

There is no such thing as a multi entry tourist visa. In Vientiane you can currently obtain a single or double entry tourist visa. When things return to normal next March and a visa fee is once again charged you will be able to pay for a triple entry and perhaps even more entries. Despite the number of entries obtained, the visa is still only valid for 3 months.
