george Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 People in North and Northeast warned of summer storms BANGKOK: -- People living in Thailand's North and Northeast should be aware of and prepared for summer storms they may face over the next couple of days, the Meteorological Department has warned. The Meteorological Department said in a statement released to TNA today there could be summer storms in the country's northern and northeastern regions during 20-21 April. This is because the areas are likely to be affected by both low pressure with higher temperatures in the midst of summer and high pressure with cold wind from China during the period. Given the joint influence, provinces in the country's North and Northeast could face possible summer storms with hailstones on the days, warned the weather bureau. Other parts of the country could also be affected by the joint influence with raining scattering in some areas, said the statement. --TNA 2005-04-19 Local weather forecasts for Thailand: http://www.thaivisa.com/weather.0.html

ovenman Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 A weather system rolled through Chiang Mai late in the afternoon on Wednesday. No real rain where I live, but some lightning in the distance. A nice breeze cooled the temperature down quite a bit in the early evening. Not quite as hot on Thursday as it has been for the past week or so, but not cool either by any means. Now clouding up late in the afternoon, probably due for a repeat of yesterday's pattern.
Jai Dee Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 I was in a small village near Pra Thai, 2/3 of the way between Korat and Khon Kaen for most of the past 2 weeks, and we experienced quite a few storms... mostly preceeded by heavy wind storms. Some of the storms were wind only, and blew a lot of dirt and dust around, but quite a lot of very welcome rain has also fallen. Geez it was hot before the rain though... A few of the more enterprising locals were busily collecting frogs (for food) that had surfaced after their dormancy during the dry season. I've regularly seen afternoon storms a few times a week around this time of year for the last 3 years.
