george
Check your real broadband speed here:http://speedtest.thaivisa.com george, do you know where the thaivisa speed test server is located? I get intra-country speeds on it, which obviously if it's in country then it gives us no measure of speed improvement outside Thailand. it's the SF server. No, it's SG (Singapore). ekachat
think about the time zones. what day is it here in thailand now, what hour? what does your timestamp show? I did, whats your point? Mine says 0209 on the 16th. Are you seeing something different? that you said the cable wasn't operational because the article was dated today. wpcoe
The article in the opening post is date-stamped 2009-12-16 and says the link will be opened up "today." It's now 0245, so these (and all previous posts) might be a "before" picture of the state of affairs. I guess we need to try again tomorrow to be sure we get an "after" picture. Anyway, here's a test of my TT&T 5Mb/5Kb Indy just now at around 0245 on 2009-12-16. To Los Angeles: To New York City:

George4
I'm happy with True but I see they are using speedtest so you can check your internet speed. Try BKK to San Fransisco I have a 4mb connection and get about 4700/4800. when I test with Sppedtest Then when I try Speakeasy to the same place I get 3700/3800. Love to hear True explain that one away :0)
LivinLOS
Getting pretty much full capacity out of my 3Mbit line here.. Should have 1024 up but hey.. If they are adding to the international bandwith it might be time to move up to the 8 - 10 - 12 Mbit lines now being offered.

Stricken
Having an operational cable does not equal a faster operation in Thailand. There are probably numerous commissions of people who want to look like they are important who have to deal with the subject first, than maybe, they may start giving the consumers a bit more bandwidth. So do not get to exited. It will take a long long time before we actually see an improved internet speed. I don't see much, if any at all difference in my CAT Fiber Optic set up. Totster
I see no difference to Europe or USA, speed is about 500k download and ping of around 400-500 from anywhere outside the immediate region where I am getting between 1g and 1.3g on CAT EVDO. I won't be holding my breath waiting for an improvement. Totster
markg
Download Speed: 3397 kbps (424.6 KB/sec transfer rate) Upload Speed: 406 kbps (50.8 KB/sec transfer rate) Latency: 95 ms 16 December 2009 06:28:18 TTnT from Phuket However it is 6.20am here which is just about the fastest time for me. Not much traffic in Asia or Europe due to the time here and zones there Speed has always been acceptable for me with TTnT as has their reliability. A couple of barely significant outages in 3 years. The modem once blew and was replaced in their shop immediately - no questions asked. I'm not a 'heavy' user - just an average email/surfer. Are the above speeds good? I pay 750 a month plus tax = nearly 800 a month.

I was there when they hooked Guam up to this cable. I never noticed any difference in speed. None. I think the ISP throttled the speed allowed. I think TOT does here. brahmburgers
To be positive about this, I hope that slow speed will come to a halt.... You hope the speed will come to a halt? Maybe if Guam (one of the transit points) puts a gate valve on the fiber cable coming through their island, and makes a ransom demand of $1,000/minute for opening it up again. 5=5=5=5=5=5=5= Way out in the sticks of Chiang Rai, I'm getting; download speed 1744 kbs * * * * upload speed 305 kps Even if it's not quite 100% operational yet, many thanks to the folks who put the optic cable in and tightened all the screws. mnbcm
I'm on TTT with 5Mb connection in Chiang Mai. So far so good, but then again, it's 7am in the morning. Anxious to see how things go in the afternoon. I've been having horrible upload problems to servers in the U.S. this week that I'm convinced are a TTT issue. Still having problems. SeanMoran
I don't have any control to benchmark today's speedtest results with, but I should get an idea of whether there has been much of an improvement later on tonight. It seems noticably quicker than usual this morning. Speedtest results for this connection at 512/256 came in at 501/268 as an average of a few tests, so I have no complaints. Thanks for the news and I'll see if things are still as sluggish as they have been over the past couple of weeks by the end of the day.
