Visa For Child

Featured Replies

I am a uk citizen (mother)to a 3/12 year old child who was born in Thailand. I hold a UK passport and have a family 'o' visa. My daughter has a UK passport but holds a Thai birth certificate. I am a little confussed about if she needs a visa or not to travel back to Thailand where she will be going to school.

We have been going back and forth from Thailand to the UK since she was born and have never had a problem with her travelling on her UK passport and showing her b'cert. But last time I was questioned at the UK airport by the airline and they only just let me on the plane. Once in Thailand they said it was perfecty fine for her to travel on a UK passport without a visa as she has a Thai b'cert.

I called the Thai consulte and at the time they said it was ok as well. We are about to return to Thailand I called again to checkand now they are saying she needs a visa.

Can anyone clarify for me what visa if any she needs to travel on to Thailand. We are flying on one way tickets as we stay for at least 1 year in Thailand.

Get the baby a tourist visa. They are free at the moment. That covers the one way airticket thing. The airlines get very emotional about carrying anyone that doesn't have a confirmed outward airticket. You can apply for a Thai passport for

the child if you want to.

The father of the child is Thai? You say family O visa so that is my guess but you did not say so in your post. A Thai birth certificate would be issued for any child born in Thailand.

Using a non Thai passport visa requirements must be met for entry. So a tourist visa would be required for a stay longer than 30 days. Once in Thailand there is no overstay for child so no need for border runs. If Thai one year extension of stay are available but as said there is no overstay fine in any case. (I am reading age as 3 and one half years)
