Yahoo Messenger

I have yahoo messenger, and a selected list of personal contacts, yet during conversations I am bombarded with messages from people I don't know, many who say they are f/21/philippines etc. then I get others who offer 'links' to porn with a hyperlink.

How are they doing this? My Yahoo ID is private, only for friends and relations. Have I been invaded, or is this a cookie thing?

Distressed and boiling with ire. W.S.

But; how is it possible for XYZ to suddenly pop up. When I got yahoo messenger I entered user ID into contacts and they even had to click and agree, yet I am plagued by sweet susan etc. with links and B/S chat. Anyone with Yahoo Messenger have this problem? never had it with Microsoft.

Have you set your Yahoo messenger privacy settings to

" Do not allow users to see me online and contact me "

and " ignore anyone who is not on my friends list "

That should keep those dastardly philippinos at bay

I get a lady once in a while come on YIM and flirt.

Funny thing it is not a real person. I can make ridiculous

responses and still get the script answer. It is a program

that is trying to get me to a webpage where they might

sign me up to see her webcam or pictures.

Kinda funny.

I just put her Y ID in the "ignor list" under

Messenger/Preferences/Ignor and "she" is gone

forever.

hope you saw that response. Most messenger services will let you restrict contacts to only those on your list. Makes it a bit tricky for others you might know to get through though, if they are not already on your list.

With that and the nasty way Yahoo digs itself in your system with toolbars etc... I would say don't use it.

Skype is far better, and gives multi person audio conferenceing. Eyeball chat is better still, and will monitor your MSN contacts too if you want. (no multi conference yet though.)
