Anybody ever try these little electronic boxes that you plug into the wall socket and they are supposed to produce a frequency that scares off mosquitoes? They claim that the frequency is not harmful or heard by animals or people. The prices range from around 250baht to over 1000b for ones that scare off just mosquitos to mosquitos, cockroaches, and rats. It am starting to see them more often for sale in different stores and I am wondering if they are any good. If so, can anybody recommend a brand as there seem to be at least a few out there.

I am not talking about the ones that use a chemical as I can't be bothered with buying refills, topping it up etc. Anyways, what do you think about these, any experience with any of them?

there is a discussion going on on the subject http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Immunity-Mos...0&start=100 - some were very happy with the results, but no brand names were given.

I would suggest to buy one of those in the supermarket and if not happy return within 10 days - bafore buying you might make it sure, that the repeller can be returned for a full refund.

I have read about the battery (not mains) operated, that they do not work and are waste of money.

please do let us know about your findings, as I am myself in the market for any good anti-mosquito devices

I bought one of the plug-in Pest Free devices (made in Australia) several years ago and used it frequently. I would say I had a 70% success rate with crawling insects. I very much doubt its effectiveness when it comes to killing mosquitos. For this purpose I use a 90-day electric plug-in mossie killer. The bottle needs changing usually after 2/2.5 months but I find it very effective.

Just bought a package of "Citronella" made by Otop from a Herbal shop and will start trying in out in the next few days. It costs 35 Baht for 250 gr and apparently works for ants, cockroaches and mosquitos as they don't like the smell and supposedly avoid the area. The paste is to be kept in a bowl with lid on top when not in use. Will give it a go and let you know of the success/failure should you be interested in it.
