The consulate gives you a visa, immigration in Thailand decides if you can enter and for how long.

It depends on your nationality if one gets a 60 day or 30 day permission to stay, but since you already have gotten 60 days once you will fall under the nationality that will get 60 days.

Yes, there are reports that Penang refuse back to back visas if you have made an extension on your last visa.

Try Vientiane, Kota Bharu or KL.

Probably your friend is referring to visa exempt stamp that is 30 days by air and 15 days by land border.

Yes, I would avoid Penang if extension of stay is in passport. Vientiane currently issuing double entry tourist visas for free. With extensions and border run in the middle, that would give nearly 6 months stay.

Hi - I will be applying for a Thai TR visa ext. in Bangkok next week and then booking a return flight BKK - Penang for visa run in early Feb..

My last visa runs have been as follows:

1. Penang: usual 60-days

2. Penang: I didn't apply on advice of usual agent and got 30 day on arrival at Suwannaphoom instead

3. no visa ext. in BKK and then a 60-day TR visa in KL which was rubber stamped at Suwannaphoom

I figure that I will take my Penang agents advice on whether to apply there - or take a ~6 hour bus trip to Kota Baru and apply there as I've never been there and it sounds ok from all I've read on thaivisa.com.
