neverdie
From my old crusty memory (perhaps I should consult the much younger wife , just kidding), what about Billy Joel, wasnt he married to a dame about 35 or something years younger. Im sure Rod Stewart is still banging teenage beauties, what about tiger woods, anything is fair game for him , if it has a pulse, is walking upright - tigers set to putt a shot. SantiSuk
Sweeping generalization I know but it always worked for me. The younger and more beautiful they are the crapper they are in the sack. Stick with the over 30s, they are also more likely to grow fond of you.
mizzi39
Hey all, the OP is 60 yrs old. Check his profile. This must be his first trip to LOS and maybe his first (you know what). We know this will never work... 60 years...marrying (or wants to marry) 19 year old... Troll? Sounds very trollish or very stupid. Sorry don't mean to flame, but some truly do deserve a bit of flaming! "bird watching" is his favorite hobby?
caf
The OP stated this:I have read that because she is under 20 that you must pay 94,000 Baht to register the marriage. There is no suggestion anywhere that his girlfriend is asking for the money. Some people seem to read what they want to read. You are right. He said that he read it. He could not have read it in a government web site because there is no such fee. He either read it ob some forum or is a little confused. A posiible scenario is that her family said there was a fee. brasseye
The marriage won't work. Mine didn't. I'm 65 now and married a 20 year old. It lasted 2 weeks. I left her for her 17 year old sister. We ran away together because we knew no one would understand, that and her brother being handy with the machete. All that was 4 years ago and we've a family; three kids and a fourth on the way. Who knows? The OP may be in the same area as me as I paid a 94 k dowry but it was to a couple of her male cousins. I remember them clearly as the night before I finished with my bride of 2 weeks, they unexpectedly turned up on their new motobikes. My wife went on the back of one and told me she was just going to visit her unwell uncle. She came back the next day looking rather tired and must have been up all night taking care of him. Her cousin must have helped too as he looked really whacked when he dropped her off. But she'd made a big mistake. When she'd been to see the sick Uncle I was left alone with her baby sister Miow. And things just kinda happened when she brought me my coco and rinsed my dentures for me. How I remember that long first kiss and how she thought she'd left the tap running. You see true love can work. This is my 7 th marriage in 5 years in Thailand and I've sired 13 kids, paid a sum of 1.3 m in dowries, built 19 houses, bought 23 assorted cars and pick-ups, over 3,000 head of hua and kwai, 4 prawn farms and 2 chicken farms, a building firm, 3 beauty salons, 2 computer shops, 7 coffee shops cum bakeries, one petol station, 4 7-11s, a wedding photo shop [great for discounts], a mobile phone shop with 3 market outlets, a travelling movie theatre specialising in Chinese Movies, a Honda franchise for motorbikes, several smaller motorbike shops, 11 University scholarships and the sponsorships of three rural schools. Nearly forgot, 4 wheel chairs as Old Ma keeps latching onto passing motorbikes and burning the rubber off the tyres, a motorbike and side car for Old Pa - 3 of, and 6 Walls ice cream franchises. I think that's the latest up to Sept this year but expect somebody somewhere will have a few unpaid bills due. Oh, yes. A pool installation business but I said it would never work and was proved wrong. You have to be careful where you put your money. Did I include the 11 restaurants? So there are some happy endings. I wish the two youngsters all the best!

skydiver77
I don't know whats wrong with an old git getting spliced to a 19yr old. If I was back in the UK, I'd be coming up to bus-pass time. Here in the LOS, I've enjoyed nearly 5yrs of blissfull marriage to a sweet knockout bird umpteen yrs younger than me. Suffering cats! No flatlining here. But a long time mate of mine, over 20yrs older than me, is still running on max. with more energy than a whirling dervish. His main claim to fame being the youngest para. to drop at Arnhem. [He had his collar felt within 2hrs and spent the remaining wartime in a Stalag.] He has young chicks clamouring for his return here for yet another high octane visit. And no wonder, as an ex professional pussy whisperer, he has lost none of his orgasmic inducing skills. What gets the birds on a higher plane though while they are lost in their own paradise, at an opportune moment, Alf swiftly and discreetly, deftly removes his dentures and manipulates his bare gums over the sweet spot. No wonder when he turns up at our local karaoke joint, those curvy chicks are all over him like a rash. Long may it continue....

stub
Someone is trying to rip you off I'm afraid. If it is the girl or her family, be thankful you learned before the wedding. Assuming the family (most likely), remember that you are marrying them as well - this is Thailand. If you feel the girl is right for you and you still want to proceed, your probably going to have to negotiate like you are buying her off them because, well, that is pretty much what is happening. A monthly payment rather than sinsot is probably best, as you will be paying every month anyway and you can stop if things go bad (assuming kids etc. don't complicate the picture). You also will get a better picture of what is happening - if a one off lump sum is required you should be seriously worried about her doing a runner no matter how much you think she loves you. poldebol
- Most Thais (like many western people) are still immature at 19, and far too young for the responsibilities of marriage let alone have the wisdom of how to make a marriage successful.- As already mentioned several times there is no 94,000Baht fee or any fee because she is 19. - Beware the negative comments that will flood in on this board about being scammed by her parents are realatives; be aware that in Thailand there is a dowry process (called sin-sod), it's part of Thai culture for centuries and it's not going to change because some westerners don't like it. - Also be aware that many families see EVERY farang as rich. You can explain forever that your not rich (if that's the case) but you can be guaranteed that they will not believe you. If asked "Why do you believe all westerners are wealthy?", many will eventually say "Because the government of your country is rich and they give a lot of money to everybody". - Sharing is part of Thai social behavior and more especially if it's an upcountry family. They expect a share of the 'wealth' their daughter will get by marrying you. "sin-sod part of Thai culture for centuries" any source for that? I remember having read that in some Thai areas, the family of the bride had to pay a dowry (like in most of India e.g.).
