Rimmer
Early on Wednesday Morning, Police based at Na-Jomtien Police Station which is a division of Sattahip Police, were called into action following reports of a necklace snatch involving foreign tourists which had just occurred in front of a village in Na-Jomtien. Police soon arrived at the scene and spoke with Mr. Daniel Deurge and his wife, Mrs. Jacqueline Deurge from France. They had sustained minor injuries after they were forced off their bike during the necklace snatch. Thanks to good descriptions of two suspects, Police were able to arrest a 16 year old boy and a 23 year old man, Khun Wanchana. Both were known to Police as serial offenders in the Pattaya and Jomtien areas and were told to apologize to the victims at the Police Station before they were formally charged with aggravated theft. They are currently being held on remand pending a court appearance. www.pattayaone.net

Lovedog100
"Both were known to Police as serial offenders in the Pattaya and Jomtien areas and were told to apologize to the victims" Gee, that was rough. Serial offenders had to apologize. They will be sure to give up their life of crime this time. Notice they didn't have to pay for medical treatment, or for that matter, damage to the victims motorbike. Had the thai's thought faster, they could have claimed it was just a motorbike accident, and had the farang pay their damages.
PhilHarries
It's about time the police started to offer some choice to the victims, either:- 1. Accept the snivelling grovelling apologies. or, 2. Don some size nine, or similar, steel toecap boots and kick the f*cking sh*t out of these scumbags. 0r, 3. As per 2 above but have some of the Thai-apologists from ThaVisa take the place of the crims. Personally I prefer option 3 as it avoids inflicting pain on intelligent beings. philliphn
In order to decreasse crime. Severe consequences must be given to repeat offenders.
Graham101
Why are the perps faces hidden and the photos always so small? There is no requirement in Thai law to obscure the faces of those faces criminal charge. French victim, repeat offenders --Hmmm, guillotine their right hand
bobbin
The Thai Judicial system should be ashamed of themselves. I have lost count of how many times I have read news articles on thefts involving deliberately crashing the victim's motorbike. This is a quantum leap above simple theft. It is assault with a dangerous weapon resulting in physical harm to the victims. Many of these news reports contain the throwaway comment that the perps were known to be serial offenders, as in this case, or out on remand from the exact same offense. The police have done their job but are being let down by the courts. Meanwhile, the young kid with 5-10 yaba tablets is banged up immediately. And I know that the thieves are spending much of the loot on yaba themselves. But it seems like cart before the horse. Priority to the people injuring other people to feed their ( artificially high priced ) drug habit.
DisainaM
why do they only report about the small picture ? The system is working like this, there is a fruitshop on the road, next to a motorbike taxi waiting point. When you come into the trap, one of the taxi biker gives a sign to a woman, who also appear at the fruit shop, pretenting to be a customer, and catching a direct look on your gold, and gives a hand sign to the taxi biker, that this might be real gold. When you leave the fruit shop, 2 young bikers will come, to make their act.
