Filling In A Pond Before Building New Home

We have a piece of land near Pattaya that has quite a large pond on it (approx 15mtr x 15mtrs). Not sure how deep it is, however, I think that the pond is feed by an under ground spring.

When the pond has been filled in this area will form part of our garden, we wont be building the house on this area.

My question is, what is the best way to ensure that we can tap into the natural spring (for watering the garden etc) but still fill in the pond?

I was thinking of some kind of vertical concrete pipe over the water source then maybe a submersible pump.

If anyone has experience with this then any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I had the same problem, big pond with water draining into it from somewhere.

Ended up shaping the pond and trying to follow the water course with a digger, lost it eventually so left it as a stream. Then threw an ornamental bridge over it

The water did not seem to come from one point but seeps into the stream from many points.

Waited for a dry spell then put down some rings in the pond with a submersible pump. the pump now feeds underground via plastic pipes maybe 30 meters up to a waterfall then into a smaller pond, then to the stream and back into the pond.

A tap can switch the 'waterfall' pump to water the garden.

Best thing we ever did by leaving the pond there, it's a source of enjoyment for us and everyone who visits not to mention the 500 or so talapia and 50 odd koy who live in it.

A couple of attached pics you can see the stream I created looking for the water source. In the other you can see a small concrete structure to the left of the brifge, that is where the taps and switches live, just in front of that under the water are the concrete rings with a submersible pump.

That was my solution anyway :)

Thanks for the reply. I hope to get rid of the pond cause it takes up so much space. Got a feeling that could be easier said than done!

Like the idea of the concrete rings. Maybe we could pump the pond out and find the source, bung the concrete rings over that area and then fill in around the rings?

I really have no idea if that would be the right way to go about it :D .

Pond is full of fish, look like gold fish.

Like your "note to self" very funny.
