Anyone Try Narin Couture Tailor?

Featured Replies

Apparently Narin Couture (Narin the tailor) is the only tailor in Thailand that does full (floating)-canvassed suits. Full-canvassing has extra layers of canvas including a chestpiece, which give a jacket a stronger chest and stiffer/cleaner appereance. It is the hallmark of the best suits in Europe, but apparently no tailors in Asia know about it expect for some in (formerly British) Hong Kong. I've heard stories of the supposedly 'exalted' July tailor lying to customers saying he can do full-canvassing while telling others he can't (in reality he can't).

So Narin is my last hope... does anyone have any experience with him? I'm thrilled that he does full-canvassing, but I want to make sure he has good listening ability, speaks English well enough, and can copy some photos of suit silhouttes I like. If he's one of those skilled but stubborn tailors who won't listen to customer's desires to deviate from house style, then I guess I'll pass. thanks

Is this the place that is on the corner of Soi 3 and Sukhumvit, the owners name is Narin? If so, he does good work, I had two suits made there a few years ago and have been very pleased with them.

^No, this place is apparently around Soi 8 or 10 according to their website: http://www.narin-couture.com/home.html

I'm guessing Narin's suits start at $500 USD and up, it's a relatively high end place.

I had 3 shirts made there. Excellent quality. The reason why his stuff is more expensive is the fabrics. He uses the same fabrics as the ones you find at high end retailers. I believe I had 2 fittings. Also, the work is done in his shop unlike the Indian places that litter Sukhumvit. I highly recommend him. He definitely knows his craft.

Did he speak good enough english and seem willing to listen Dave? The only real technical thing I want to instruct him on with my suit is the armhole and adjacent sleeve attachment, which can be difficult to describe (apparently a good tailor can put a larger circumferenced sleeve into a smaller armhole to give a very mobile jacket around the shoulders, i.e. 'high armholes').

Yes, I had many questions. He seems to be fluent in English. I never had to reexplain what I wanted. He also seems to make a wide variety of suits/shirts/pants. I'm from NYC. I can't afford a good tailor here. Shirts that run $200 in NYC cost me $50 at Narin. Although suits seem to be close to retail off the rack pricing.

Oh, one thing to note. He did notice that I didn't wear a watch and asked me if I normally wore one. So, I assume that he would have made one cuff bigger than the other.

I also saw him help another customer (Aussie) with a suit. You should definitely go there and check him out. Hope this helps.
