President Bush lied, says Mahathir

Malaysian PM dismisses claims US leader rebuked him over Jew remark

KUALA LUMPUR

THE President of the United States lied.

That was Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad's latest riposte in the continuing exchange over whether he was ticked off by the American leader over his remarks that Jews ruled the world.

'It's the biggest lie. If he had rebuked me, I'm quite sure I would have rebuked him also,' the combative Malaysian leader told reporters here after arriving home from Papua New Guinea yesterday.

'I think he wants to support his officer,' he added, alluding to White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

Mr McClellan told reporters last Monday that President George W. Bush had pulled Dr Mahathir aside at a Bangkok summit to rebuke him for his anti-Semitic remarks. A day later the Malaysian PM insisted it did not happen.

But Mr Bush told reporters afterwards that he had indeed put the point across to Dr Mahathir personally that he thought the comments about Jews were 'reprehensible'.

Yesterday, Dr Mahathir not only accused Mr Bush of having told the 'biggest lie', he also noted pointedly that someone who could have lied about the existence of weapons of mass destruction could also lie about what was said to him.

This was a clear reference to Mr Bush's statements about Iraq's cache of banned weapons, which are yet to be found.

Despite the exchanges, Dr Mahathir brushed off the controversy as a minor issue. What was important, he said, was the opportunity to present his views during the Apec meeting on the need for the restructuring of the international financial regime.

He reiterated earlier remarks that the international outcry proved his point that Jews controlled the world.

'I think it is true that the Jews control the world through proxy and if you say anything against the Jews, then they are going to accuse you of being anti-Semitic and will try to stop investment from coming into this country,' he told reporters.

But he said Malaysia would not be blackmailed into silence.

'I don't think we should allow ourselves to be blackmailed by them, 'If you do not say nice things, I will not invest in your country, I'll pull out my investment'. That is blackmail.

'This is the kind of pressure they put (on us). I don't see why people should get annoyed with what I said, which is absolutely true,' he said.

Following Dr Mahathir's remarks - made at the recent Organisation of Islamic Conference Summit in Kuala Lumpur - a US-based Jewish lobby group, the Simon Weisenthal Centre, called for a boycott of tourism and investment in Malaysia.

The Malaysian Premier yesterday also took more potshots at Australia - which has been tagged by Mr Bush as Washing- ton's 'sheriff' in the region.

He said he disagreed with Mr Bush's view that Australia played an important role in ensuring regional peace.

'They have no role whatsoever in maintaining peace, although they are members of the five-power defence pact,' he was quoted by Bernama as saying.

He was referring to the Five Power Defence Arrangements - which groups the defence forces of Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand and Britain in a loose military framework.

'We don't expect them to help us...But we are still kind enough to allow them to practise here,' he said.

No doubt at all, Mahathir lied......

If you follow the squabbles between Singapore and Malaysia and how Mahathir reneged on promises he had made, changing the terms and conditions as and when he wishes even though signed in black and white, shifting the goal posts, just to mention a few, you will know who the liar is.

I think he feels inferior and by just blasting everyone especially the non-muslim leaders with his outbursts he hopes to offset his inferiority......... :o

I loved the huge diplomatic row he caused with Australia when Paul Keating called him recalcitrant. My thai husband was reading the Thai papers at the time and commented on what a nasty thing Mahathir had been called by Keating. I told him it wasn't that bad, showed him the translation in the thai dictionary and he told me that was not the word that the thai papers were printing. so presumably he lied to the local press as well. He will not be missed in SE Asia, presuming he really does leave! maybe he is lying about that too!

In this case I believe Dr. Mahathir lied, although it could be discussed wether his original speach was wrong.

Bush is quite wellknown for his un-diplomatic way

of doing things.

Ah, and think of the dirty way Mahathir got rid of Anwar Sadat, putting his No. 2 in jail with a lot of lies.

Axel just watch a politicians mouth...if it's moving he's lying.

Dr. how can you say so? A poltician never tells a lye.

May be the others are mis-informed, a statement taken out of context, the opposition is after them , the general public does not have the necessary background information...

So in this way it is a tool of the trade, an art!

OK, I was lying...

Like, "No we did not produce a deficit, check the figures, I budgeted one of $100 m and now we have -$80 mio only, so you see I produced a surplus of 20 million Dollars!

Ole George Dubya is a worry, but Mahatir is notorius for his intemperate, inflamed contributions to the world stage. He is an old and bitter man. His exit from politics will be applauded by most.

I don't like Mahathir but I am glad people like him does exist. Without him, there wouldn't be opposition to threats like the US and Terrorism.

Didn't that Egyptian come to grief ?

Cairo 1981, poor bugger. Hosni Mubarek, sitting just to the right of Sadat, miraculously escaped injury, later became Egyptian president.

Oops bugger was Ibrahim, no wonder I always mix them up

Wrong department, I am too busy:

"I'm glad I'm not bisexual. I couldn't stand being rejected by men as well as women."

Bernard Manning.

but I am a lesbian, if the definition is true, they like girls only.

and a nymphomanic

There really is no comparison between Bush and Mahthir, the latter has done a great deal for his country, but what has the former done?

As to the comments about the jews, I believe that they were slightly misinterpreted. Truth is no politician in the US  would ever get the campaign funds, let alone elected. If  he/she told the truth about Israel. Now there is there power of the Jewish lobby for you! Bush was only keeping to that thread.

Finally as to Howard and Mahthir, there is no comparison between the two, one has sold his country out and the other is trying to maintain the independence of his.

He was a heavy drug user for a long time (not that there is anything wrong with that) and a complete drunk. He was a substance abuser until he found "God" and then he became another abuser but this time in christianity and became another Christian Fundamentalist.

leave it up to an ignorant cracker like Dubya to get into the PM of Malaysia's face without knowing what that means to Asians about losing it. Similarly Matahir would never admit that the exchange took place for the same reasons. So...who cares?

Matahir may be an Islamist jive ass but he has consistently stood up for the developing world in the face of the globalization onslaught. That's a lot more than can be said for other regional 'leaders'.

In any event, Bush would have to make a display of publicly condemning Matahir to appease his US Jewish/Israel constituency who don't give a shit who is elected in the US so long as the result maintains the status quo in the Middle East.

Picture a world where Israel was forced back to pre-67 borders, disarmed(with the UN to insure territorial intergrity), Ariel Sharon put on trial for war crimes and the resulting good western relations with moderate Arabs/Muslims everywhere.

The terrorists would then be the Israelis and their Mossad and Shein Bet hoodlums who would not hesitate to destabilize such an arrangement. WMDs?...ha, no discussion.

Lest we get away from the bigger picture...
