Uk Returning Residents

Featured Replies

hi you all First happy new year to you all.

Next week my wife goes to the UK visa place and all papers ready. its her 4th UK Visa, just Holidays and my family to visit. Looking through the Visa web site I was reading about 'returning residents' It stated if youve been out of the UK for 2 years you need a visa. Can any one clarify that? Are they really saying that a uk passport holder,British citizen.needs a visa after staying away?? This one for my thai wife is more than enough, the thought of me having to apply would be the last straw. Maybe Im reading that the wrong way. Cheers to help.

Pip

A British Citizen born in the UK would never have to apply for a visa to return there. A person, originally from another country, who applied for, and has been given British Citizenship but then chooses to live outside the UK could possibly run the risk of having his citizenship revoked, but only after living outside the UK continuously for more than twenty years.

I think what you're refering to is somebody who has been granted ILR in the UK. A condition of ILR is that the UK is their main place or residence so if they then choose to live outside the UK for more than two years they might have to apply for a new visa if they can't justify their absence and show that the UK is still their main home.

Thank you for that. You are right and I got that the wrong way round. But then G Brown and all his Ginger Beer kronnies are capable of something like that are they not?. :) Thanks a lot and best regards
