Extension Of Permit To Stay

Featured Replies

I'm currently on a one year permit to stay based on marriage.

It runs out on May 12th.

I understand that I can apply for a new permit to stay from about 12 April.

However I must leave the country on April 12th for 6 weeks (working, good job).

I could apply for a new Non Immigrant O while out of the country,

but I'd rather keep this one running if possible.

I could move my dates a little so I leave Thailand on April 19th.

This would get me an under consideration stamp.

Can I leave & re enter the country on this stamp ?

My last under consideration stamp was valid for 50 days.

Anyone got any suggestions for best way forward ?

Thanks

Normal stamp would only be 30 days. Best you explain your situation to the office and ask them for advise. They may allow you to obtain early or arrange dates. If not you will have to just obtain a new visa and start anew 60 days later. But do ask as they try to be helpful in situations like this.

You say you are married to a Thai, that means instead of the 1 year extension you can apply for a 60 day extension and a re-entry permit. That should take care of the period you work. When you return you can next ask for a 1 year extension, if immigration doesn't want to give you a long enough under consideration stamp.

Won't he also need a re-entry permit if he leaves with an "under consideration" stamp?
