Travelling In North Central Plains (sukhothai, Etc.)

Dear all, I'll be heading to Chiang Mai in Feb. And will travel south to Sukhothai. I have a few questions to ask.

I intend to explore Kamphaeng Phet and Si Satchanalai. Would Pitsanulok or Sukhothai be a better base to explore the 2 sites I've mentioned? On the map, Sukhothai seems nearer but Pitsanulok seems to be the transport hub. And would there be minibuses, or other transport means originating from either Pitsanulok/Sukhothai? How much would they cost?

Would appreciate any help. Regards

Sukhothai would be your best bet as Si Satchanali is only about 3 kilo from sukhothai ,you can hire a push bike to tour if you so want.Good hotal in sukhothai. Have bus sukhothai to kamphaeng phet about 100bhat.

I've stayed at the Pailyn a few times.

It's an average place. The rooms are very dated.

It's also well used by tours, so be prepared for a very busy breakfast.

There are a couple of smaller guest houses closer to the historical park which I believe are pretty good.

Sukh is by far the better choice. It also has buses/minibuses to all of these places and as its considered the tourist hub-also more tourist-tourbuses. Cost of bustravel in Thaild is so cheap (to KP most likely much less as 100) that only someone who has no clue would worry about it. Just open a guidebook-or tell at least a bit more clearly what level of hotelcomfort you consider as minimal, to get any reasonable answers.
