I've heard that due to the recent problems in Myanmar, that the border is closed and you can't get a 15 day renewal there. Is that true?

No.. was there yesterday.. no problems..

No problems. I was there Friday, Jan 8 to have my second of 2 visas stamped. I was in-and-out in under 30 minutes, didn't bother to shop in Myanmar.
