Er-6n Clutch Issue

My clutch was just fine yesterday, then I took the bike to the mountains for an extended trip (wow - winter is really the best time for northern Thailand roads, just fantastic, with early morning fog... so pretty... anyway....).

When I came back, i noticed I couldn't switch into neutral. Then I noticed I couldn't roll the bike properly with the clutch fully pressed - there was some resistance. I ended up setting the clutch hardness setting from 4 (light) to 1 (hardest) and that did it - now it's working fine.

Going to the dealer for 6k service soon and will have them take a look at it.

But.. should I be concerned about this? Is the cable loose? Why would it suddenly change? Am I ruining my clutch riding like this? Bike feels pretty OK.

Something happened to the clutch also the last time I was at the Kwacker dealer, it was different after, even though all they did- as far as I know - was clean and oil the chain and install the Puig windscreen. I considered going back but then adjusted the hardness settings back to soft and it seemed OK.

There is no clutch hardness setting on the bike per se.

All you have done is adjusted the reach of the lever. ie you either moved the lever out or in from the pivot point.

You just had some cable stretch that's all. You simply adjusted your lever further out and thus gave you more pull on the cable.

Have the technician adjust the cable for you. Should be adjusted at the gearbox end of the cable not at the clip-on end.

Ride safe.

Will just let them do it at the next service in a few days.

I find gear change on the Ninja 650 to be a bit 'grumpy', a bit 'clonk, clonk'. Only bit of the bike I'm not keen on. Other than that it's ideal.

Yes it can be adjusted either end. However the correct method is to adjust at the gearbox end.

I am not sure I am imagining this but it seems a bit less 'clonky' since I've adjusted the lever to the "1" setting... might want to try it.

my Honda VTX 1800cc v-twin was almost as bad as a harley, earthquake CLONK each gearshift. harley copy :D:D:D:D

Kwaker is smoth as silk in comparison

If you have a nasty "CLONK" when engaging 1st gear.Then your drivechain have gone slack.

Adjusting the bike chain should be part of your ritual when owning a motorcycle, together with checking the fluids, brakepads, electrics and so forth.

If chain is adjusted corrected the "CLONK" will be minimised. All it means is that when you engage 1st gear. It had taken up the slack of the chain.

Not just Kawa, it also very prone on Yamaha and other brands.
