Expiring Non 'o' Visa

Featured Replies

Hi all

I have a non -immigrant 1 year 'o' visa (Issued Hull UK) which expires on 27 Feb 2010, my passport is current stamped 21 March 2010 as my last day in Thailand. I'M going back to the UK for 3 months before coming back to Thailand. My wife and I want to go to Luang Prabang around 27 Feb 2010 for a few nights and I wil return to UK in March (not sure of exact date).

My non immigrant visa was issued by Hull on the basis of visiting friends. Since then I've married a Thai lady (but not signed any paperwork, or registered anything yet).

I have two questions

1. If I go to Luang Prabang on 27 Feb 2010 and return 1 March 2010 I understand I will not be allowed into Thailand as my visa expires 27 Feb 2010.

Can I get a new visa of some sort in Luang Prabang? If so how much will it cost and what sort of visa would it be?

2. When I want to return to Thailand in June 2010 what sort of visa can I get? Can I get a spouse visa (even though marriage is not registered?)

Is a spouse visa also a non immigrant 'o' visa ?

Thanks for your help

1. If return is by air you would get a 30 day visa exempt entry on a UK passport. If by land 15 days.

2. You can keep your current 21 March date alive with a re-entry permit from Immigration prior to departure. On return you enter that stamp information and get the 21 March date again. Cost is 1,000 baht.

Go for re-entry permit as when you leave Thailand your visa will be finished.

If you come back into Thailand on 30/15 day stamp on arrival you will need to show an outward bound ticket from Thailand.

The 1-year non-imm O visa is multiple entry, but only up to the expiry date on the visa. I thought that the only way to get anything other than a 30-day visit stamp if seeking to enter after that date would be either to get another O visa abroad, or apply before leaving for a 1-year extension at an immigration office in Thailand, either on the basis of marriage or retirement, when a re-entry permit would also be required.

Is there some other form of re-entry permit?

I would have thought that the OP just needs to get a 30-day visit stamp when he returns from Luang Prabang, then apply in the UK for a single entry non-imm O from Hull (don't let them sell you a 1-year multiple unless you want to do border runs), get his marriage registered at the Amphur when he returns, and then apply for a 1-year extension within the 90 days that he will be given on entry.

As said your Visa will expire while you are away.

On re entry you will get 30 days by air. That should take you to you leaving for UK.

You cannot apply for a Visa based on Marriage as you are not legally Married.

If you intend to get Married apply for a single entry Non Imm O Visa from Hull and apply for a 12 month extension at Immigration in Thailand. For this you need 400,000 Baht in a Thai bank for 2 months or a monthly income of 40,000 Baht.

If you do not intend on getting Married or cannot meet the financial requirements get another Multi Entry Non Imm O for visiting your girlfriend..

Is it true that I will have to show an air ticket to leave Thailand in 30 days?

I will be getting a ticket to do this but have not done so yet.

Thanks for your help guys.

Immigration almost never check, instead it is the airline who will check that you have a ticket out of the country witjin 30 days. They might refuse you without proof of leaving Thailand within 30 days of arrival. Normally within Asia it is not checked by the airline.
