Wednesday, January 20, 2010

BREAKING NEWS — A strong earthquake has hit Haiti, shaking buildings and sending people running into the streets.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the preliminary 6.1 magnitude quake hit at 6:03 a.m. (1103 GMT) Wednesday about 35 miles northwest of the capital of Port-au-Prince.

It says the quake struck at a depth of 13.7 miles.

Sure that wasn't Thailand dropping their donation?

Haiti needs another earthquake like a hole in the head. Oh, I forgot, they already have a hole in the head. (That was an attempt at humor, please don't shoot me.)

The snipit above didn't mention it was an aftershock. It was. Would have been very odd to have two large earthquakes in the same place so close together. Living in California where earthquakes are a regular occurrence, I once felt two in a day that were miles apart on two completely different faults. That was strange.

Here is what the nut job Rev. Pat Robertson had to say about the Hatians afte the recent quake:

‘They were under the heel of the French, you know, Napoleon III and whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, ‘We will serve you if you will get us free from the prince.' True story. And so the devil said, ‘Okay, it's a deal.' And they kicked the French out. The Haitians revolted and got themselves free. But ever since, they have been cursed …”

They sure have had it rough. Terrible leaders, crushing poverty, devistating storms, and now this quake. So sad.

An aftershock is still a quake.

And Pat Robertson still deserves to be tarred and feathered.

An aftershock is still a quake.

I know. I wasn't saying it wasn't. It just sounded like the original article was saying it was possibly a quake unrelated to the 7.0, and some subsequent posts, uhum, sounded confused about it. :)

Pat Robertson is a despicable character.

I have seen images from Haiti on the 'net and it looks like complete anarchy there, let's just hope that the poor b&stards can get back to some degree of normality as soon as possible.
