Declining eyesight
So my mother in-law (Thai) is having declining/blurry eyesight. I think maybe cataract. She is a bit hesitant going to see a doctor. I told my wife that I don't mind to help since I know that surgery can be quite expensive. Any recommendations on hospitals where in case it is cataract she can have surgery done at a decent price. Accident Miracle Escape for Family of Three After Pickup Truck is Speared by Guardrail
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A family of three miraculously survived a road crash on the morning of 18 June, when their pickup truck collided with a roadside guardrail near Lampang. Emergency services were alerted to the incident around 05:00 via the 191 emergency radio centre in Lampang province. The crash occurred on the inbound Phahonyothin Road near a curve in Moo 11, Chomphu sub-district, Mueang Lampang district. Police from Khelang Nakhon Station and Amarin Rescue Unit were dispatched to the scene. There they found a silver Toyota Vigo pickup, registered in Lamphun province, impaled by a steel guardrail that had pierced through the engine bay, steering column and cabin, before exiting through the rear of the vehicle. The damage was described as resembling a “meat skewer” , the vehicle wrecked. Inside the vehicle were a man, woman and their five-year-old son. The driver, a man aged 35, was found lying in the grass beside the vehicle, his legs injured and his right shoulder immobilised. A deep laceration was noted on his right foot. His wife, aged 30, had sustained a serious head wound and was found seated by the roadside with their son on her lap. Remarkably, the child was unhurt. A lorry driver who had been following the pickup, quickly assisted, moving the child to safety in his truck and alerting rescue personnel, who later transported both injured parents to Lampang Hospital. Initial reports indicate the family had been returning to their home in Lamphun after completing an aluminium and glass installation job in Bangkok. They had departed the capital the night before, resting intermittently at fuel stations. Their last stop was in Ko Kha district, Lampang, shortly before the crash occurred. According to the lorry driver who witnessed the crash, the pickup had been travelling steadily before the driver suddenly veered into the guardrail. Israeli forces kill 51 Palestinians waiting for flour at Gaza aid site
Eleven Palestinians seeking aid were among at least 33 killed by Israeli gunfire and strikes across Gaza on Wednesday, rescuers and medics say. A spokesman for the Hamas-run civil defence agency said Israeli forces "opened fire and launched several shells" at thousands of people who were queuing for desperately needed food supplies on the main Salah al-Din Road. Crime Chinese Robbery Suspect Caught at Suvarnabhumi in Joint Thai–Hong Kong Police Operation
Picture courtesy of Khaosod Hong Kong police collaborate with Thai immigration to apprehend a Chinese suspect accused of stealing luxury goods worth over 10 million baht. On 18th June 2025, Pol. Maj. Gen. Chengron Rimphadee, Head of Immigration Bureau 2, announced the arrest of Su Kai, a Chinese national wanted for a bold robbery. Following the directive of National Police Commissioner Pol. Gen. Kittirat Phanphuetch and Immigration Bureau Commissioner Pol. Lt. Gen. Phanumart Boonyalux, measures were in place to combat transnational crime. Immigration Bureau 2 coordinated with the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Police, who flagged Su Kai as a suspect. He allegedly committed a robbery in a luxury handbag store in central Hong Kong, posing as a customer. He seized the opportunity to incapacitate a female staff member with a scarf before escaping with luxury bags. Su Kai then boarded Thai Airways flight TG629 to Suvarnabhumi Airport, arriving on 18th June at 17:43. The operation was led by Pol. Col. Pongthon Pongratchatanon, Deputy Head of Immigration Bureau 2, responsible for the operation's security. The investigative effort, co-led by Pol. Col. Natthakit Meesuk and Pol. Col. Naowarat Chaloemsri, quickly identified and captured Su Kai within the terminal. Su Kai was found with over 20 stolen items, including 14 Hermès handbags, two Van Cleef & Arpels bracelets, and various currencies, totalling over 10 million baht. Thai immigration authorities denied him entry and arranged for his deportation in coordination with Hong Kong police, who were expected to retrieve him and the stolen goods on the morning of 19th June. This case exemplifies international collaboration in immigration law enforcement and combating transnational crime. Pol. Maj. Gen. Chengron shared that since January, Immigration Bureau 2 has denied entry to over 10,581 high-risk individuals and conducted in-depth screenings of more than 22,000 others, ensuring Thailand remains vigilant against harbouring criminals.
