Police Escorts

I was travelling from Pattaya to Bangkok Tuesday on the motorway out of Pattaya. I was driving in the centre lane at 90 KPH which is the speed limit on this road when a Police Car escorting 4 busses which were tailgating each other were passing cars at 120 KPH, kicking up stones from the centre median barricade. The Police Vehicle had his flashing lights on and made all other vehicles move over from the centre barrier to the left. I sped up behind the last bus and clocked him on a down hill run at 130 KPH. A lot of cars had their windscreens smashed and were pulling over.

What gives these idiots the right to break the law especially when the people inside the busses were on holidays as they had loud music playing and disco lights flashing inside the bus. It was no emergency except for the cars with the broken windscreens. :)

Who in their right mind travels at 90km/h in the middle lane on the motorway (Pty/Bkk #7).

The speed limit on the motorway is 120km/h if you must travel at 90km/h please do it in the far left lane, people like you are the cause of horrific accidents.

I came on the the express way at Rama 9 one day and happened to pull into one of these convoys in between two buses, the bus behind me moved into the centre lane, drew level with me and then deliberately swerved towards me, the <deleted> tried to force me off the road for no reason other than i was forced to pull n between his vehicles (with a safe distance between us I might add, I was then unable to move into the centre because of other traffic then this idiot pulled into the centre and tried to force me into crashing. Of course after this the shithouse would not even look at me, even after i stopped next to him at the toll.

this convoy also had a police escort and the bus was full of children, fuc_king Neanderthal

In case you dont know the speed limit down the Motorway/Freeway is 90 KPH. The speed limit down the TOLLWAY is 120 KPH until you get to a corner near the last Toll on the way to Bangkok which states 100 KPH. :)

Funny, as I just saw a pathetic escort on Jomtien Beach Road tonigt. A crappy local government truck escorting the most clapped out coach this side of a scrapyard. Why bother (unless it is to stop and pick bits up off the road that have fallen off the coach).

Still, makes them all feel important, and at little cost. Usually the coaches are armed forces, police or local government flunkies on a jolly.

I was driving up to Korat last week, just before reaching the new bypass at Saraburi there were at least 12

mobile disocs sped past me, lights flashing and music booming out, these retards had to be doing at least 130-140 km/ph, tailgating so close if the driver had leant forward he could have touched the bus in front.

If I may steal your line which summed up my thoughts at the time,

"this convoy also had a police escort and the bus was full of children, fuc_king Neanderthal"

Luckily I turned off onto the new bypass, just when you think you have seen it all.

90kmh is actually as dangerous as these maniacs, you should be driving at 100km/h

The speed limit down the motorway is 90 KPH and it only has 3 lanes.

In first world countries most speedways are 100-120km/h

Would you rather follow what was deemed best in advanced countries (with no danger of police stops, unless its their kid's birthday then you fork 100baht)

Or follow what the country with some of the highest death toll on highways deemed best?

90km/h on the highway is EXTREMELY dangerous

Thanks for clearing that up, yes indeed the 36 has a lower limit than the motorway, maybe you should edit your first post to say 'I was travelling from Pattaya to Bangkok Tuesday on the 36 out of Pattaya'........................

they annoy me too, but i just get out the way, that's the way it is here, nothing

we can do about it... unless you want to try the PIT maneuver on them when they

cut you off.

"The PIT maneuver is a method by which one car pursuing another can force the

pursued vehicle to abruptly turn sideways to the direction of travel, causing the

driver to lose control and stop"

I've passed a few of these convoys doing 160+ on the highway. They're a pain in the arse. Silly police on his Boxer motorbike beeping me as I went by. Okay, I intentionally buzzed him but dude, get a real bike!

Wow, didnt know that the Boxer can go 160 or more. Must be something in the air here in Thailand as it looks like motorbikes are much faster here then in the west.......

It can actually be for anyone that books and pays for an escort from the police department. I know an international tour company that did it when they had a meeting out here for all management staff. I also know a guy that did it for his family with a limo - just to make them feel good at the start of their holiday.

Went from Chanthaburi to Aran with a escort once and the cost for a single vec. was only 1000bt total time was 1hour 52min while worth the experience

We used to do yearly staff outings - and one year had two busses loose control ( pick up cut them off ) , and ended up in a ditch. about 50 out of about 80 staff in hospital , some of which spent 3 months there. ( no fatalities fortunately ).

Always used the escorts after that, good way to stay safe on these treacherous roads. If you have ever walked though a hospital with alot of people you know well who are hurt, some quite badly - its worth the money.
