Went from Chanthaburi to Aran with a escort once and the cost for a single vec. was only 1000bt total time was 1hour 52min while worth the experience

We used to do yearly staff outings - and one year had two busses loose control ( pick up cut them off ) , and ended up in a ditch. about 50 out of about 80 staff in hospital , some of which spent 3 months there. ( no fatalities fortunately ).

Always used the escorts after that, good way to stay safe on these treacherous roads. If you have ever walked though a hospital with alot of people you know well who are hurt, some quite badly - its worth the money.

So from now on let's all hire a police escort when we want to go somewhere.

I would say you were lucky it was just an escort. Here in Bangkok, the Police simply shuts down the motorway (Thang Duan) to let a VIP drive through.

Thousands of car, especially during peak hours, just stand still, engine running, waiting for a single car to come and drive by. This can take 15 to 20 minutes.

The impact on the environment is dramatic: Imagine thousands of car, trucks, buses standing still for 15 minutes for one single person's comfort! I wonder who has so little regard for other people and the environment, not to mention the traffic situation. And ... no, it's not HIM.

Yes, and it's one of the most ridiculous, pompous, unnecessary things in Thailand (should be put in the "annoyances" thread above too). Often it's two cars, each with just one person in the back, 4 other cars which may be empty or have some military suit in then loads of police cars and bikes. For what? Show? The disruption to regular people going about their day is crazy, and even if they don't clear the whole road try NOT letting just one of the police cars push past or cut you up. It's like their life depends on it. The Thai people hate it but it's one of those old-fashioned ingrained things that no-one dares to change.

I wonder if other countries have the same, Philippines, Vietnam, Indo?

whoever died would get the blame, unless the guy left alive is White. Then it will be his fault no matter what he did.

^^ What he said... Tragically they would die and the victim would get a nice Wat cremation and blessing from a monk but since it is likely they are guilty of not yielding to law enforcement just as in any other country not likely too much else would happen except maybe a few thousand baht for compensation if they belong to right family and they're lucky...Next.... :)

I think in my country normaly the police has to follow the trafic law too. We never woud accept speedig convoys, if there is not a real emergencie. In over 40 years in my country, i never saw a single convoy. :)

Here in Thailnd you can never be sure that one of this convoys "like to kill you"!?

Also here in Thailand, to speed with 130 or more in a small city or drive on the wrong site ect., is not nessecary, dangerous and only shows how little respect some people have for there own population.

I've passed a few of these convoys doing 160+ on the highway. They're a pain in the arse. Silly police on his Boxer motorbike beeping me as I went by. Okay, I intentionally buzzed him but dude, get a real bike!

Wow, didnt know that the Boxer can go 160 or more. Must be something in the air here in Thailand as it looks like motorbikes are much faster here then in the west.......

I meant I was doing 160. Not the Boxer. My bad! Poorly worded sentence.
