thanks and have always liked the forum have read many post,s and got much info over the years but never joined.time flies i guess!!

I love Hua hin, only ever stayed a few days at a time, but is pleasant, and not horrendously expensive. I live in Chiang Mai and would reccomend it, but, it is a fair hike to the beach

Krabi? :)

Last time I was in Hua Hin there was no English language cinema. They only showed dubbed films.

If you like the beach and have already done Pattaya and Phuket, you realy have not got that much of a choice Brian!

I think Hua Hin,Cha-am,Krabi are the only real choices unless you would consider Rayong?

It makes it difficult with the kids in tow!

Good luck with your preferred choice,i would be interested in going to Cha-am have heard it has good facilities.

Visit Hua Hin Cha Am. From the perspective of someone that has to stay close to Patong, Phuket, it seems to me that Hua Hin is a refuge for the sane.

well lads thanks for the replies i think cha am and hua hin seem like like the best, patong beach is just about over for me i,m afraid one more condo being built and i,ll jump out off my window!!

This is a bit of a spin off another thread i think. The majority seem to go for Chang Mai/Rai

Chiang Mai, for many many reasons...

1. land very cheap

2. just 1 or 2 streets with annoying tuk-tuks and touts, if you stay out of there, you will not be bothered

3. quite good western supermarkets, excellent cinema, lots of shopping malls

4. easy to drive and park, hardly any traffic jams.

5. very good air quality, if you live 15km out the city

6. can see many birds, sunrise, sunset over the mountains

7. great roads for bike riding and exercising

8. drivers (cars and scooters) are not aggressive, so very safe on the roads

9. internet access quite good, electricity does go out once in a while, but have generator

For me the most important thing is not getting hassled and ripped off, as long as you keep

out of the bars and the 2 main streets (night market and loi kroh) which have all the pushy

touts and bar-girls, its an awesome place to live. But even the tuk-tuks here dont seem

pushy at all, not after reading about Phuket!! But since I have a car, I dont interact with

them anyways, except flying past them on the highway.

are you not tempted to try an Isaan Village or even a town (as they have the moving pictures houses there)?

Give Sukhothai a try.

You mentioned a 13 year old son but no one has offered their opinions about the educational opportunities and the teenager's environment at any location. He obviously needs more than the cinemas.

Brings back memories, trying to find what we liked in the school district we wanted. We always finally did, but it was always the last house we looked at.
