dmax Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 in the future i would like to embark on a teaching career in asia to enable me to live and work there legally as i have a house in khon kaen and my thai wife also wants to return to be near her family in the next few years. so i have now got a date to start a course at my local colledge ( introduction to tefla course ) the course is £ 138 and what i want to know is this, in your view would it be a good move to do this course,i am on a budget and if i thought this course wasnt nessesary then i wouldnt do it ,i would just go for the tefla in a couple of years time but on the other hand i do need some brushing up on my grammar and spelling etc. i left school 27 years ago. and have worked in construction and engineering since. whats your advice please thankyou in advance
Loaded Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 An introduction to TEFL is unlikely to cover grammar in any depth. Also, spelling isn't covered on a training course. Spelling isn't too much of an issue as vocabulary is managed in a well-planned lesson. If I were you, I would buy a few good study books and self study until you are ready for the commitment of a full-time course. Raymond Murphy's Language in Use - elementary (CUP) And Michael Swan's Practical Language Usage (Oxford) would be a good start
