I came upon a CD by 2 Thai singers. One of them is great and the other is the best I've ever heard. The cover is in Thai only. I would like to see if she is on You Tube.

I can't write Thai, but here goes.

GSC is her first name, however the th G and C are reversed in direction and the C has a line above it.

last name - aGGJuun [The a has a mark above, the G's are reversed the J is both reversed and upside down, the n has a little accent]

The Album name is WSJC1WaDSn [the J is reversed and inverted the C is reversed the 1 is inverted the D has a gap at the top left , looks like a harp, the S has an accent and the n is reversed]

I know the other Singer on the Album is Nantida.

uunQJ [accents above 1rst U and the N, gap in the bottom of the Q and J is inverted and reversed.

11ncucajR [n reversed with accent, C's reversed, U has accent, J and R inverted and reversed].

Can you get a photo on here? I have a fairly large collection of Thai vcd/cds, but this one does not sound like Tukatan, Tai Oratai, Jintara, Kratae, Earn the Star, Punch, Fon and so on. I am Canadian too.

Another possibility is for you to go to eThaicd.com and look at their recent releases, and try to identify her from that list. They also list female singers under Thai music and morlam-lukthung. If she is from Isaan, try the morlam-lukthung section. This is where you will find Tukatan Chollada, Tai Oratai, Jintara and many others. Note that this company uses different spellings in Thai than I do.

Hello @eggomaniac,

The songstress is called Orawee Sujjanon (also written Orawee Sajjanont, Orawi Satjanon, Orawee Satjanon, etc. There are a lot of spellings, some strange, other correct). The other songstress is Nantida, you are right. About the album, I'll try to find out how it is called since there is a lot of song material from Orawee. I think it's a kind of "Best of Orawee" album, or maybe "Greatest Hits". I like Orawee a lot; she's not only beautiful but also has a very good, clear, soft (in my opinion) voice!

Hello @eggomaniac,

It's me again! This should be the album you are looking for (see attachment).

The website is from Germany but as you can see it's possible to switch the language to English.

Yes, that's the album I have. I have theory that Thai singers are the best in the World. They have an unfair advantage, as learning to talk is like learning to sing.

When I meditate and listen to Orawee, I am almost sure I have documented cases of time warp! She is like a fine tuned musical instrument. Nantida is also very, good.

Did you see tilokarat's amazing collection?

Who would you rank as your most favorite Thai singers, male and female?

Sorry for being a little bit late.

No, I didn't see tilokarat's collection. I have an own quite big collection of Thai songs. You ask who I would rank my most favorite Thai singer. Well, that's quite difficult, at least when it comes to female singers. I will try:

Pop/Rock - female singers

1. Sai (Intira) Charoenpura (Sai is her nickname, Intira her real name). VERY Unfortunately she doesn't seem to make any new albums now,

it seems to me she's not anymore interested in it. Today she's an actress like her older sister, Mai Charoenpura. In my opinion, the voice of Mai

is absolutely terrible... She has a lot of problems to sing the deeper and higher tones, often her voice breaks within a sentence etc. Her little

sister, Sai, is just the opposite: a clear voice, strong, she never misses a tone.

2. Beau (Sunita) Litikul (again, Beau is the nickname, Sunita the real name).

3. Nicole Theriault. She is half Thai, half (french speaking) Canadian.

4. Mam Patcharida (Mam = nickname, Patcharida = real name). A longer time ago, when she was about 11 - 14 years old (estimated) she per-

formed in a trio together with 2 other girls. This trio was then called "Sao Sao Sao" (means "Girl Girl Girl" because they were three girls). The 3

had a couple of hits in Thailand before they eventually splitted up. Mam started a solo career (as the other 2 girls did) and became quite suc-

cessful. I like especially one song of her, in Thai it's called "Ting" (or "Teeng"? I don't know). "Ting" means "dumped", she sings about a girl (her-

self?) who had a boyfriend and got "dumped" by him.

5. Yarinda.

Pop/Rock - male singers

1. Bird Thongchai McIntyre. Do I need to say anything about Bird? I guess, everyone who is in Thailand for a longer time will know him.

2. Peter Corp Dyrendahl. He's half Thai, half Danish. Good and easy to recognize voice.

Pop/Rock - groups

1. Why Not 7.

2. Labanoon

3. Loso

Lukthung/Looktoong - female singers

1. Orawee Sujjanont

Lukthung/Looktoong - male singers

1. Mike Phiromphon

2. Monsit Khamsoy

Mor Lam/Mo-Lum (I don't know how to write this correct), female singers

1. Jintara (Taengmo) Poonlarb (Taengmo is her nickname)

2. Job & Joy. That's a duo (2 singers)

3. Taai Orathai. Taai sings mainly Mor Lam as well as some Looktoong.

Songs for life (in Thai "Pleng phua Chiwit") - groups and male singers

1. Carabao

2. Phongsit Khampee

3. Zuzu

There are a lot more singers and groups but it's impossible to remember and write all of them.

Sorry, I'm not a fan of any เพลง เบื่อ ชีวิต (purposely misspelled :) ) thai artist. They are too over the top for me..

Neither am I a fan of the luk-krung singer; เบิร์ด ธงไชย Albert Thongchai McIntyre; who seems to spend more money on his personal appearance, hiding his sexual preference, and his extravagant Las Vegas-like stage shows than developing his limited singing talent. Although at 50+ years of age I'll cut him some slack, and I do like some of his material.

He also puts on one hellova live concert and I’ve seen him 3 or 4 times. I do believe that there is more than a little lip-syncing going on, as I doubt seriously someone can dance like he does and carry a tune as well as it seemed he did, but still, a good entertainer. I did notice his audience was primarily over the hill, more than middle aged thai women, something akin to the old Liberace concerts in the US :D .

Plain and simple; I like Rock & Roll; เสก โลโซ Sek Loso, บิ๊กแอส Big Ass, บอดี้ สแลม Bodyslam, ไมโคร Micro, อัสนี วสันต์ Asani/Wasan, โปเตโต้ Potato, even the old หินเหล็กไฟ Stone Metal Fire and เป้ ไฮร็อก Bae-Hi-Rock aren't all that bad, even if the music is dated.

I don't know about thai speaking being anything like thai singing. It is my experience in listening to thai songs; much more a creative license is taken in pronouncing words to get them to fit into the rhythm of the song than in pronouncing them clearly like a person would do in spoken thai.

The woman named Nantida Kaewbuasai (นันทิดา แก้วบัวสาย) is quite a talented singer in her own right. I believe she used to have a dinner club on Lower Sukhumvit and would play there regularly. Unless I'm mistaken she is or was married to an infamous politician from Samut Prakan who ran amok a couple years ago.

FWIW; I have found thai songs, by what ever artist a good way to learn thai. It certainly practices one’s ability to glean a better understanding into the myriad of thai idioms which are so common in colloquially spoken thai.
