Want Ed Visa To Study Thai, Currently On Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

Hope you can clarify for me and sorry if this has been done before.

I want an ed visa to study Thai. I'm currently in Thailand on a tourist visa. Can I make the ed visa application at Chaeng Wattana? Or must I make the application from outside Thailand? I really want to avoid the expense of a visa run if at all possible.

Many thanks.

Enroll in a school, after which they will provide you with paperwork from the Ministry of Education.

Then you will have to leave Thailand and apply for the non immigrant visa at a Thai embassy or consulate abroad.

Changing visa status is normally only available if you qualify for a 1 year extension on that new visa. Studying Thai does not do that as you'll have to get a new extension every 90 days (without leaving Thailand).

Just to confirm what monty told you. You will have to go to a Thai consulate outside Thailand to obtain the ED visa. The good news is that you need to do it only one time. If you continue for the following year or years you will be able to extend the same ED visa as long as you apply for extensions before your present visa expires, usually 4-6 weeks earlier (in Bangkok) and 2-4 weeks in places like Pattaya and Chiangmai.
