A Search Engine For Books In Word/pdf Format?

Featured Replies

Am doing some studying at present, and have managed to put all 15 course books - each book in both word/pdf format - onto my laptop computer.

Am now looking for a kind of 'search engine' that will allow me to search the location/s - book/chapter/paragraph - of single words and phrases etc.

Can anyone suggest a software package (FREEWARE?) that would allow me to do that?

note: have not 'numbered' the books/chapters/paragraphs. Will the s/w package still operate o.k or will I have to number everything myself.

Completely new to this 'scenario'.....advice most appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

hi,

you can search a word document by typing ctrl+F. This brings up a search box in which you can type your word or phrase. pdf also has a similar search option but it depends on how the text is formatted as to whether it will find everything.

Most desktop search engines are able to search content in Word and PDF documents and should work OK.

In your case it might be useful to limit the search to a certain directory where you put your books. Copernicus Desktop Search can do this, and it's free for home use.
