February 14, 201016 yr Hi. I have a UBC box that goes to the TV with 'minijack'-plugs. When I wanted to look at a DVD, I had to remove the cables and plug in the player. Now I have a TV that has VIDEO 1, 2, 3, but I am not able to connect both the UBC-box and the DVD-player to the TV and switch between VIDEO 1 and VIDEO 2. Would it be possible to buy or go to a TV repairshop and make a 'box' that switches between the two devices. Thanks. philo
February 14, 201016 yr If your TV has VIDEO 1, 2, 3 why can't you connect the UBC to 1 and DVD to 2? If you plug them in you should be able to choose input on your remote control.
February 14, 201016 yr Author I have tried it, but didn't succeed. The tv is called 'Interiart" (JVC). Here is a picture of the plugs (and the text written above the plugs is to small to read) even with reading glasses and a flashlight.
February 14, 201016 yr Suggest you use composite cables for better picture. Three cables for pic and two for sound (in the middle) Else the yellow red and white as normal. Looks like you have normal - composite - normal, for video 1 - 2 -3 Edited February 14, 201016 yr by PoorSucker

Looks like you have normal - composite - normal, for video 1 - 2 -3 Using the composite will give a better picture from DVD but you need to get the composite cable. If you plug the yellow, red and white into the sockets marked normal as previous post you should be able to switch using the remote, if not either TV is faulty or the operator is faulty
February 14, 201016 yr Ive got one of these gizmos it allows up to 3 inputs ie dvd, PS2, satellite etc RCAs into the tv all you need to do is select which input you want on yr tv & bingo! for the cost of about 80 baht from most electronic suppliers
February 14, 201016 yr Author Thanks for the swift and informed reply. But what is 'composite' cables? (the second set of plugs). Also: The first set of plugs (with cables attached in the picture) VIDEO 1 works both with UBC and DVD (have to change cables though). You suggest that the fourth set is VIDEO 3 ? (the third set - as I understand it - is for L/R sound only). Thanks.

Composite is the red, green and blue sockets, you need a cable with 3 plugs on each end with the same colours R G B. This cable does not carry sound so you need the red and white for sound as well if you use this. It will give you a better picture from DVD. If you have been plugging the yellow, red and white cables into these red, green blue sockets it will not work, use the sockets on the far left with yellow, red and white. Keep pushing input on the remote until you see the picture.
February 14, 201016 yr Just so there is no confusion between "composite" and "component" video. In composite the video comes in on one RCA phono jack (yellow one) and L+R speakers for the other two RCA phono plugs. Component uses separate signals for the R(ed) G(reen) and B(lue) signals and as such requires 5 cables for video and audio. The other option from looking at the photo is S-Video. From worse choice to best is composite - s-video - component. It appears he has composite and S-video as the choices. //edit - looking closer at the photo it appears the left ones marked composite are actually component as it appears to show red, blue, green in the center insulators. The picture isn't clear enough to be sure. Also, red and white are the audio inputs. More info here > Component or S-video Some more details and history > So, what is component video anyway

He does not need to spend any money, just put the plugs in the right spot, this device will not change with the remote control either.
February 14, 201016 yr re-reading the OP, you are correct as he has only 2 devices to plug in but the photo wasnt clear so i suggested the gizmo
February 14, 201016 yr Author Thanks to all. Problem solved. Correct cabling in the living room (this tv) and the 'gizmo' in the bedroom (that tv has only one video input). philo
February 14, 201016 yr Check the front of the TV there may be a a second set of sockets there, possibly under a flap? You mention Video 1,2,3.
