Vientiane Visa Run

Featured Replies

Hi all...

Have been looking through the threads on doing a visa run to Vientiane from BKK. What is the best way to do it from the two options below.

Option 1. Fly directly from BKK to Vientiane on TG leaving at 11:45 AM and arriving in Vientiane at 12:55 PM. Obtain a Laos Visa at the airport and proceed to hotel. Check out the city for the rest of the day and wake up in AM to go to Thai Consular. Apply for non-imm visa early in the morning, pay the fee, and return to hotel and stay another night. Next day pick up visa fly back to BKK at 9:50 PM (or earlier if the Visa can be picked up earlier). This seems to be the easiest option, but also the flight is more expensive than option 2.

Option 2. Fly from BKK to Udon Thani on Nok Air at 1:55 PM and arrive at 2:55 PM. Then get transport to Nong Khai from Udon (approximately 1 hour?) and obtain a visa at Laos immigration around 4:30-5:00. Then direct to Vientiane to check into hotel. Wake up next day, apply for visa, pay fee, and sightsee for the day. Stay one more night and wake up next morning and collect visa at appropriate time. Then after collecting the visa, return to Nong Khai, then to Udon for the 6:30 PM flight back to BKK.

Have any of you done either or both? Considering the price difference of 3,000 Baht in flights but the convenience of landing in Laos and not dealing with the land border.... which is the preferred option?

Thank you very much in advance for any help or suggestions!

Many more fly to Udon from reports here.

None of the above.

Go to Laos Embassy in Bangkok to obtain visa. Book Air Asia morning flight to Udon Thani. Make your way to Vientiane and apply for visa the same day. Stay one night and pick up visa the next afternoon.

Of course if you don't reside in Krungthep, you will have to get a visa at the border, but you keep the time frame.

Thanks for this....

Is it feasible to do the same thing but get the visa at the border, and still make it to the Thai Embassy in Vientiane to submit on same day?

Also, no problem making it back to Udon for the 5:40PM flight?
