I bought a small Haier aircon last year and was pleased with it thru the last summer, but haven't tried it yet this year. May be getting another one if I hear other good reports from consumers out there. Price last year was about 10kthb installed and it had the same warantees as the bigger name brands.

any other consumers.....pleased or not??

I might get me one if the price is right so am also interested in feedback... the reviews I've read seem to be negative from those who don't have them to positive from those who do :)

I've subbed to this topic as I too would like to hear from owners.

Story goes that a few years ago they were crap and the Chinese had to get their QC act together.

Apparently they have now, and enjoy a good rep, whether the story is true or not.... I dunno, yet. :)

I just ordered a 9,000btu with the new Siam T.V.[now located near the crazy hospital outside the moat]. this years model was 13??k thb and last year's mocel was 10,990thb. The only difference is new model has a lcd display on indoor unit, but otherwise same same. Guess which one I bought? Have one already for a year and so far-so good.

They do have a limited supply of last years model and it WILL be a long HOT summer!!!

This is in Chiang Mai....don't know about other places.

GD....I read the same story about Haier co......where the new CEO had all his employees of the company watch him take a sledge hammer to the old crap refridgs and said from now on we're making quality......and now is global and makes many appliances etc.

We have 2 of them that are pretty new in the condo in BKK. They are efficient and VERY quiet. I replaced 2 old beaten up units that we had problems with and started running the AC all night every night and a significant portion of the day and my electricity bill went down!!

I am a happy camper and quiet pleased with them.

I've got a brochure from a local dealer that says 36900baht for a 12000BTU inverter unit and 17900 for the cheapest 9000BTU unit...that don't look cheap to me...

what about service/maintenance?...anyone ever had to call out for one of their people to service an inverter unit?

is it true that 12000BTU is the largest inverter unit that they make?

Tutsi,

I would get at least 2 more quotes, the "brochure" price is just a negotiating point.

2 & 3 man ops in low rent areas should give you the best deal.

My local guy installed 3 units for less than $90.

He will remove and re-install for $150 + gas in any new location... within reason.

Servicing 6 monthly is 1500bt, 3 guys arrive and strip them all down and clean up.

Daikin Super Inverter series have a 25,600 BTU outdoor condensation unit and an indoor (ceiling concealed) unit of 20,500 BTU. They do also have smaller units.

Mitsubishi Electric have a giant Japanese made condensation unit of 56,000 BTU (inverter) with probably the best compressor one can buy for money, but it is very very expensive.

I tried calling the number for Daikin in BKK but when the guy heard that I lived in a small town in Suphanburi he didn't want to do business...I imagine that's too far for one of their service reps to travel if the need arose.

Locally Haier are the only inverter units available that I know about but I need a 18000BTU unit...

Get two 9,000btu units and then you'll have the option of turning one off after the room is cooled. Don't know the watt usage, but seems like it might be cost saving??

could do 2 x 9000BTU but at a higher capital cost...energy saving with converter units would be the same with both in operation...and both would haveta be in operation continuously to respond to the design load...don't wanna have a smaller capacity unit dealing with a larger load as the unit would then be operating outside of the maximum efficiency point which would compromise the energy savings...

somebody in the other thread mentioned above mentions ARC in Chonburi for Daikin equipment...has anyone outside of BKK in a provincial area used them for inverter units?

I (the developer) might be buying from them for my house in Pranburi given that they will be providing the uPVC windows and sliding door for the villa. ARC will be coming up with an updated quote by the end of the week, or more likely early next week, so we will see.

I put a 9000 Btu Haier unit in 2 years ago, 11k bt (from Makro) +2k to install.

We don't use it much, but it's quiet, and even set at 27-29 C, it is comfortably cool at night (excessively cool for me!)

It's only in a small guest bedroom, but even in peak summer it only runs the outdoor unit for less than about 10mins in the hour.

Not serviced it yet, but no drop in performance seem.
