Red Shirts Moving For A Showdown: Jatuporn

webfact

Recommended Posts

We can discuss what actions will result from different Thai factions until the cows come home. No one knows what the future holds in the next few weeks.

All we can do is sit around speculating.

What I find amusing and makes me think Mr. T may have a few tricks in his bag is the fact that Mr. Jatuporn is feeding the media all the game plans of what they (The Reds) are planning to do.

Now if I was the manager of a football team, would I broadcast to the opposing team what my strategy was before each play? I think not, unless I wanted to lose.

Why Mr. Jatuporn is talking about staging people at army bases, where and when the protests will be held is very interesting to me. Not sure what I think about that or why he is doing that.

Having read most of the posts here and on other forums, I see no mention of hiring/recruiting the pro reds that actually live in Bangkok, with their home/ families who live up country.

Not sure what the population of Bangkok is---maybe 10 million ++??? But certainly 1 out of 10 people putting on their red shirt isn’t too far-fetched---is it? That itself would be 1 million.

Even 1 out of 20 would result in 500,000 and then only 500,000 from up-country would meet that 1 million person goal.

In any case, if that many people actually stage a sit-in/walk-in/sleep-in or whatever the plan is, the logistics will be a nightmare, that much is for sure.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t all end in blood & tears.

Ahead of the mass rally in the capital, mobile units of red shirts will lay siege at Army bases to block the troops from staging a coup or cracking down protesters.

The targetted bases include those of the 2nd Infantry Division in Prachin Buri, the 21st Infantry Regiment in Chon Buri, the 31st Infantry Regiment in Lop Buri and the 9th Infantry Division in Kanchanaburi.

:)

I saw the last protest that the Red shirts had outside the 9th Infantry Division in Kanchanaburi a few weeks back - must have been all of 60 people. What a joke.

The stage isn't evenn lit up behind Wat Phra Singh tonight --- the last week has had fewer than 20 people there any given night (and I think they were the family of whoever was singing -- badly)

There is almost no risk of the reds mobilising more than 20-30k anywhere in the country these days. The cash just isn't there to feed them much less pay them!

Well with enough money I think he can get close to 100.000, Pay another 1000 thugs who take military clothes and fire with automatic weapons in the crowed In the panic you have another 5000 dead, a lot good pictures in the camera etc etc.

I don't say that Thaksin is planing that, but I want to show that there are a lot options which would work and noone thought about.

Hmmmm a demand that Thaksin respect the law? How DARE you PM Abhisit?!

(Thaksin didn't respect the law when he was in power, and is a fugitive currently, so I guess to show that he actually does respect the law will require Thaksin to turn himself in to face his 2 year jail term!

After 26th when all his money is gone the Red shirt will say Thaksin who?

Didn't the red shirts protest outside some army barracks near Khon Khen with the same hard-line approach, but then get shoo'd on by the guards?

/edit to add, it wasn't that long ago...

Dear Europe,

I do appologise,

I will be unable to attend your final countdown 2010 remix release.

As I will be flying home to Australia for my 2 months school holidays & Songkhran.

I do thank you however for the invitation and hope it all goes of with a bang.

To avoid personal embaressment for my non attendance I would apreciate it if you could keep roads clear to the airport up until the 2nd of March so as no one realises my rude abscence. I do appologise and thank you for the door list as last time when returning to Thailand I was unaware of the party and was denied entry to my flight as the celebrations at the airport were so exuberant.

All the best and I hope everyone has a blast.

jdinasia always says that his questions were/are not answered. He only accepts answers as such that suit his/group version of how things should go; probably a paid poster.

Thanks for your advice I will put this one down as 'jdinasia and I will agree to dissagree on this one' cheers again :)

Yes, that is FAR more intellectually honest than answering a simple question such as -- "Should the Nation print reports of the Red leader's press conferences and public statements?"

jindasia - to answer your question - Yes, the nation should print Red leaders presss reoprts etc. But they should be carefully screened and edited. Why - to avoid publication of hateful statements, which serve no purpose other than to create real conflict and divison in society. This is after all what self censorship and having a free press is about. Report the facts and leave the propaganda bulls**t at home. The same editing and screening should be applied to all political factions. The internet and community TV stations provide outlet enough where supporters etc. can go to get their daily slice of propaganda should they so want it.

But, the great conundrum is who decides what is and is not propaganda and hateful. That's another topic.

UPDATE

PRO-THAKSIN RALLY

Red shirts to show force with 100,000 pickups

By The Nation

BANGKOK: -- March will likely see a showdown forcing the collapse of this government, red-shirt leader Jatuporn Promphan said yesterday.

The date for the showdown should be decided by Wednesday, he said.

"About one million people are expected to attend the 'showdown' rally and the protest will definitely not drag on until Songkran," he said, allaying fears of a repeat of the mayhem last April.

The crowds will gather in Sanam Luang and along Rajdamnoen Avenue leading up to the Royal Plaza, he said. Some 100,000 pick-up trucks will be mobilised to transport red shirts and will be parked around the rally site in a show of force.

Ahead of the mass rally, red-shirt units will lay siege at Army bases to block the troops from cracking down on the protesters.

The bases targeted include those of the 2nd Infantry Division in Prachin Buri, the 21st Infantry Regiment in Chon Buri, the 31st Infantry Regiment in Lop Buri and the 9th Infantry Division in Kanchanaburi.

Meanwhile, Red Siam - a red-shirts splinter group comprising ex-communist insurgents - will hold a rally at Sanam Luang on Friday and Saturday, organiser Surachai Sae Dan said.

"This rally is not meant to oppose the judiciary but to raise awareness about the case," he said in reference to the upcoming verdict on ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra's Bt76-billion frozen assets.

The mainstream red-shirts group, led by Veera Musigapong, has said they would not rally in the face of the verdict although people were free to attend a public assembly designed to monitor the case.

The splinter group is seen as being close to fugitive red-shirt leader Jakrapob Penkair.

In a related report, Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva reacted to the Thaksin's demand for negotiations by saying the government will not be intimidated but was ready to forgive anyone who shows remorse and agrees to abide by the rules.

"If Thaksin respects the law, then there can be talks - many things can be accomplished through negotiation, but he must first accept the justice system, or there will be no starting point," Abhisit said in reference to the conviction and two-year jail term Thaksin was given over conflict of interest.

During his phone-in message on Monday night, Thaksin demanded blanket amnesty. He said all sides would be led to destruction unless amnesty was granted and the situation restored to the way it was before the 2006 coup.

Abhisit said he did not see how the country would collapse for upholding the system, and that only those who refused to play by the rules would be brought down.

He said there would be no negotiations with Thaksin until he complies with his verdict and comes home to serve his prison term.

JD please get off it man. I'm bored reading your repetitive posts. everybody knows your opinion by now. Please let someone who actually has some real information (not vile emotional rants) have a little space.

Dear Mr. Japtuporn

Can you please then make it clear that if after 7 days you fail in your bid to topple the government, in this your 'final showdown', you will admit defeat and clear the streets? After all you are far better than those pestky 'yellows' who wrought havoc on our fair country by closing the airport, and who you have accused in murderous tones of being criminals. If you fail, can you promise the rest of your people - all Thais, that you will cease in your folly and bide your time until and election is called so that the average person can have some peace and stability and can try to prosper and grow. And when the time is right, we as a unified people can decide through the process of vote and election who will run our fair country once again.

Yes Mr. Jatuporn crimes have been commited, both henious and minor on both sides of the political divide, but we live in the present, not in the past.

So Mr. Jatiporn I ask once again. Can you promise, if you fail, to pack up and go home and never been seen again?

Or am I asking too much???

The only people talking about an imminent coup are the Red Shirt leaders, as it's part of their fear-mongering tactics - the tactics of a desperate fringe element that's fast running out of options. When low numbers turn out for their protest(s), it might prove to all but the die-hards that they have little popular support left.

A suggestion for the military: get some dozers and some dogs. The dozers for moving pickups out of the way of their ingress/egress (access roads), and dogs for keeping vandals at bay. If the military and police were prepared, they would have attack-trained dogs already, but we can't expect such out-of-the-box preparedness from Thai authorities.

Then there's the issue of training dogs trained to find drugs, bombs, or diagnose cancer, etc, but that's another subject. Could Thai specialists train dogs in such specialties? Maybe, but they'd need farang experts to show them how to get started.

Thank you for you advice. I will heed it. I do hope posters will also try to control themselves. Once their point of view is presented there is no need to try to hound readers into submission. It did appear that JD would not have been happy until everyone bowed on their knees and agreed with his opinions. I observed no indisputable facts in the repetitive posts. Everyone is allowed to reach a different conclusion. This includes JD and all other posters.

Regards,

As Wolfie quite rightly pointed out ... a post crying about other posters does little. Use ignore :D

Note --- the guy that was crying about articles allowing the reds access to the press never did state if he wished the Nation not to cover Red press conferences or to post their random babblings :D It is a valid question in this context -- feel free to go back and see where it came up.

All Thaksin cares about his ego, he could care less about democracy, same goes with the other color.

I agree niether side is doing the country any favours. I don't know why they just don't have big group hug, form a coalition and get on with the job of rebuilding the country.

Roger, out and over!

And Jatuporn needs help, some others in his vicinity too!

A lot of the repetition found in these threads is born out of posters who refuse to respond to points made to them; to questions asked directly of them. Instead they evade and bulldoze on with whatever point they are trying to force across. This creates frustration and poor debate.

As far as the ignore function is concerned, my experience is that as much as people like to moan about others, they funnily seem to struggle with clicking ignore. Will be interesting to see if you do manage it.

Can someone please explain why 1 million is being touted as some sort of magic number that will force the government into submission. At one million will the reds reach critical mass and become greater than the sum of their parts.

What ever happens the one thing i promise will happen is it will absolutly pi** with rain. It has done for the last few red gatherings. Don't forget your brolly Mr. Jatuporn.

Jdinasia doesn't need my assistance, but here is my 2 satang worth: JD happens to be one of the better informed posters herein. When other posters ask questions or seek qualification about something (usually to do with T and the Reds), JD has been known to respond with historical facts. Supporters of the Reds, on the other hand, wax loquacious about future dire scenarios, but shy away from citing actual facts relating to the topic at hand - or descend to name calling when stumped for a thoughtful response.

Roger, out and over!

It's like the small group of kids who say they want ice cream every day for lunch. Their leader says, if you don't serve us ice cream, I'm going to get all of my many friends to gather in front of the school and each one hold their breath until you do as we say. A slew of 'do or die' deadlines come and go, but there's never a tangible demonstration - yet the ever smaller group of leaders keeps up their periodic threats.

In thailand's history only once has it happend before where 1 million thais were gathered at one place for a cause.

The red are trying to break this record. So what if it rains? The reds are willing to bleed for their cause, what's a little rain?

I have yet to see any reds prepared to bleed for Thaksin.

The reds have made so many empty boasts for so long it's becoming boring- the government will collapse within a month (since last April), a million will be in Bangkok on Feb 20, 26, ...., there will be a censure debate as soon as Parliament opens (mid Jan) coupled with mass rallies to oust the government.....

The reds main hope is to paralyze Bangkok with traffic jams and instigate some disorder to prevent the government from functioning.

But the government have learnt from Songkran last year and they've placed troops with the police in strategic locations.

It won't be easy for the reds and who will pay compensation to pick up truck owners if their vehicles get damaged when towed away or removed by tanks?

Will Thaksin have enough money left to compensate them?

Does no one care about how succesful this country could be if they work together instead of against each other? Cant the red shirts wait til the next election? When is it anyway? I think its time for a hard line with all this nonesense and give the thais a chance to find their democracy,

This is what I keep saying, but Democracy in Thailand will never work because they don't understand the concept. It means you sometimes have to deal with the another party being in charge, while almost everyone here understands democracy as 'I get to choose a leader' and that's that, so anything that is not 'their chosen leader' is undemocratic. I'm not even sure if people here realize that there's such a thing as terms. Elections shouldn't just happen after coups.

Yes precisely when is the next elections? But then what good is any elections when the military will come in to wipe the slate clean again when the results are not to their liking

Brahm --- thanks for the support. I think we will find that there is a poster on this thred with multiple screennames and that should solve some of the issues.
