coolhandjoe Posted February 24, 2010 Share Posted February 24, 2010 Here in Hua Hin we have military helicopters circling low over the city now - especially over the Royal Palace - scary - like a war zone. Something is definitely going on. Hau Hin allways has a strong military presence because of the kings palace. We was there 3 years ago on holiday and there were navy ships anchored not far of shore, also we spent time in Phuket and witnesed naval and special forces exercises of Patong beach. There is no need to be alarmist, I am taking my family there next month and believe the thai authorities won't allow another situation like last year where a minority closed the airport and did serious damage to Thailands tourist industry and standing on the world stage. usefkl05 Posted February 25, 2010 Share Posted February 25, 2010 Reading that some tourism authorities are calling news organizations to write more "possitively" and for peopel to "believe" is a bit alarming. How about calling on the population to get a better grasp of reality so they can make better informed decisions on whether to visit or not visit certain places? I'm not saying apocalypse is coming to Bangkok, but if there's a bomb or something, it will explode with the same power whether you were wearing rosy eyeglasses or not. But having an understanding of reality will help keep us safer. Obviously these people are putting the tourism industry's profits ahead of their customers' wellbeing. I should be right, I always go well prepared and N E V E R wear at most only a little singlet, as thats the way the ladies like me . I'm going to Bangkok this Friday. Other countries governments, do not follow developments as the natural citizens of those countries, so as such it is their duty to inform their citizens or "alert" them to those news, that in this case come from thailand ... no matter what (good slogan for the next demonstration).... by doing so, yes they will apply the fear techniques that will make everyone scared and come back home or go somewhere else, but also .... will pressure TAT and the government to assure their citizens safety and "take care"of the problem ...........or they will lose money (even more) ... even whoever wants power will not want an even poorer country In countries like thailand Tourism dollars are worth more than petro dollars ..... so it is logical that Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Some also advice not to wear red or yellow shirts. Its my opinion that Bangkok should be avoided all the time especially Sukhumvit, rife with African dope dealers female African prostitutes scam artists BIBs extorting ex pats, drunks and the flotsam of Asia.
