May 15, 200521 yr Petro-chemical industry development on course BANGKOK: -- The third phase of Thailand’s petrochemical industry development plan, to increase natural gas and involve the private sector, is on track, according to a senior government official. The Energy Ministry will press ahead with its plans for the petrochemical industry and develop the natural gas fields in the Gulf of Thailand, the ministry’s deputy permanent secretary, Pornchai Rujiprapa told TNA on Sunday. Once the planned third phase of development is completed, the industry is expected to generate at least 128 billion baht a year. The government is building the infrastructure for this particular phase, but several private businesses have already expressed an interest in investing in the project, said Mr. Pornchai. Under the development blueprint for the third phase of the petrochemical industry, natural gas will be supplied to a number of industries including the automobile, electronics, garment and packaging. --TNA 2005-05-15
