Hi,

I am looking to go back to the UK in august for a few weeks. All the websites I have looked on are really expensive 700 pounds plus for BKK to LDN return. If I look at the same dates but LDN to BKK return I can get prices starting from 450 pounds. This seems weird as basically I am looking for the same flights. I was thinking maybe it is because I am using websites designed for people who are based in Europe not Thailand.

Does anyone know why there is this huge price difference for what is basically the same product and also if there are any websites which are good for flights from Thailand to Europe?

Thanks for any advice!

i find moxtravel as good as any for thailand to england flights and the price you are quoted is inclusive.

they cannot however compete with my local travel agent (i am in chiangmai) who has always been able to beat web including overseas web pricing on all classes of flight.

i would try a couple of shops in the city wherever you are

In the case of Emirates, one contribution to the price difference is that Emirates will only now sell 12 month returns from BKK. The cheaper priced 3 month returns were stopped 4 or 5 yeras ago (although special offers are available from time to time). Your UK return is probably a lower band return.

Saying that, however, I still believe that there is a discrepancy in prices.

In addition, my Khao San Road agent (the best prices I could find) cannot match some of the internet prices. And also some deals available on the internet are not available through an agent.

I dont know any facts about the pricing but I always assume its because the general average public in the UK do fly and are therefore enticed by cheaper fares....whereas the average Thai public do not fly therefore meaning that most Thai's who do fly are very rich and dont care what they pay. Not forgetting , of course, all the lovely Thai ladies whose ferang benefactors will pay whatever it takes to get them back to the UK or wherever.

Any comments on that theory....lol

I would assume Exchange rate effects have a significant impact.

Flights from Thailand are not priced in GBP but in local currency. Hence, you are seeing a price which is being converted at the prevailing exchange rate.....50THB:GBP compared to 70 a couple of years ago.

Flights from the UK are all quoted in GBP based on the local market

I had the same problem myself last November, and as you say good deals for London to Bangkok flights, but expensive in reverse.

After many hours of scouring dozens of Travel Agents and spreading the travel dates the Airline that came out the cheapest by far was Jet Air,which is Indian Airlines.Different Travel Agents were giving deals too.

I checked them out and they are a Pukka company with 80+Aircraft 20 of which are no more than 2 years old.

I got the 777,comfortable as any other,up to the minute in flight entertainment, good service.

The downside a 2 hour stopover in Mumbai, and food could have been better but acceptable.

If price is all important to you then I would recommend you giving them a try.
