Looks like there are no buses from the airport to the ferry dock after 11 AM. All the buses appear to go to Trat.

How much time and hassle does that add? Are there any other options to get to the ferry dock directly from the airport leaving after 11 PM?

Bus to Trat or the ferry port is about 6+ hours, and i think the ferrys stop around 6pm, so you're stuck for the night in Trat.

only other option is taxi - but not cheap, around 4,000 bt.

might be easier to take taxi to Pattaya (1000bt) and stay the night there, then take a bus or minibus to KC. Minibuses about 500bt one way, and leave early around 6pm, can book in advance from any travel shop in pats.
