Jingthing
I think May is the peak season. It will be cheap then anyway. Not sure about best.
gotlost
The number one area in Thailand for Durian is Chanthaburi as I have been informed by my wife and as I told her; THEY CAN KEEP IT. PU

CobraSnakeNecktie
yeah still early for durians. The watermelons are good now and the mango's are really coming on now. Cheap and tasty sugar bombs. 35 to 50 baht per kg.
keo
you can buy it year round, although prices will vary according to the seasons. Pretty sure it is in season around august - october. Muang Mai market has the best prices. can't get enough of the stuff myself! Montong is apparently the most delicious strain, very sweet.

Jingthing
OK, it is May through August ... I have noticed it tends to be very cheap in May, so I just assumed that was the peak of supply. Yes you can always get it, but it is expensive in off season. http://www.simply-thai.com/Thai-Market_Fruit_Durian.htm Beginning in May and extending through August, the Durian announces its presence in Thai markets with a distinctive, highly pervasive aroma. Yunnie
Saw some out on a little stall north of Thapae gate today on Moon Muang Rd. Somewhere slightly north of Somphet market. Walked right by it and smiled. I so hate that smell... but it taste so good.

Gonzo the Face
Durian is not allowed at our place. The only time we cut one is when we have some nice Europeans, with hairy arm pits, and have never heard of deodorant.... We put a free sample on their table.
