A friend of mine has asked me to get some caustic soda , to clean drains , I know there are more enviromentally friendly products , but ,

my friend would not settle for anything less .

Can anyone help , where to buy in Pattaya ?

Caustic and plastic pipes should be interesting, when he pours it in can I watch?

Mr Muscle Drain and Sink cleaner is readily availabe in most supermarkets, not exacxtly rocket science????

And by the way .......It works!!!!!

Most mum & pop hardware stores sell it in flake form in 1 kg plastic packets.

Thai name is "soda fai".

It is usually 97%++ pure so I would recomend your friend takes adequate precaution when mixing it with water.

Also spotted at Tesco Lotus, hardware division. Good stuff, makes a decent bar of soap out of oil.

Just a reminder. Wear goggles or eye protection when mixing with water. NaOH is absolutely the worst stuff you can get in your eyes. I don't wish to alarm but just a few drops can cause permanent blindness.

Whats the proper way to use? .I just threw a bag of those white flakes ( from the mom and pop thai store ) into the blocked toilet bowl and it just turned into a solid hard block ,causing even more of a blockage .

Add water. Let the flakes dissolve.

Before you pour it into the dunny.

The method I have used to good effect ( but as pointed out by Syd use protection )

half a bag of Soda fai down the toilet followed by a kettle full of boiling water poured at arms lenght

quick retreat from the room and close the door.

Caution the reaction is quite violent so be carefull.

The best way with Soda Fai is put a good helping in the entrance of the drain, pour on Hot water and stand well back as the fumes will choke you, dont use cold water as the flakes will solidify and then you will have to pour on hot water, its good at getting the crap out of pipes.
