Uk Visa And Other Fees Increase

Featured Replies

A reminder to UK applicants and sponsors that all UK visa and leave to remain fees will increase from 6th April 2010.

These increases apply to visa applications in Bangkok and to FLR, ILR etc. applications in the UK.

See New immigration fees from 6 April 2010.

The above gives the fees in Sterling; for the current fees in Baht see here. Remember that as well as the imminent increase the fee in Baht is regularly(ish!) adjusted to reflect exchange rate fluctuations; so always check the fee before submitting the application.

Thank you for posting; my wife goes to apply for visitor's at end of March. We live in Phuket so need to get these things right.

7by7 Ithink the link you've provided for the cost of a visa in Thai baht is actually a link to the current prices, not the increased prices as from April.

eg; A settlement visa costing £644 at the embassy exchange rate of 52 baht/£ will cost 33488 baht from April, not 30420 baht as the link shows.

Sorry, because you were talking about the increased charge.es I took it as one link was the new cost in £'s and the other link the increased cost in baht. I'll read it properly next time. :):D

When are the current fees valid until, or do they change on a weekly basis? Being that the exchange rate from Sterling to Thai Baht is pretty poor at the moment, this should be reflected in the new fee increases for April.

The current visa fees are valid until the 5th April. All visa fees are always set in GBP (£644 from this April for a settlement visa) but you must pay in local currency at the Embassy where you submit your application. The British Embassy in Bangkok don't use the 'normal' exchange rate you get at a Thai bank but set there own rate then assess it and, if necessary, alter the rate periodically. Their rate is currently 52 baht/£, about 3 baht above the current bank rate, which means everybody has to pay an extra 1932 baht for a settlement visa.............a nice little earner for the Embassy :)

I understand that although the embassy set the 'consular rate' they may from time to time have to justify it to the FCO in London.

This rate is used for all consular fees, not just visas.

Remember, too, that the embassy don't get to keep any profit they make; it goes into the government's coffers.

This applies to all British embassies and High Commissions; not just Bangkok.
