There is a current thread running about thai abbreviations, and I thought I’d share this "abbreviation song" (again) that I found on Benjawan Becker’s Paiboon Publishing You Tube page. I’ve listened to it, and paused it to write down the various ones mentioned.

I could get some of them, newspaper, security guard, and a few others, but most are out of my league. .

Any of the thai language pundits wanna take a stab at deciphering them?

More than 30 people looked at this post and NO-ONE (as in; not one single person) even answered me?

As some thais say; “COME ON MAN !!”

Some one PLEASE help me with these.

Believe me they are nearly all common thai abbreviations.

Okay some like:

ส.บ.ม.ย.ห.: which I found out today is: สบาย มาก อย่า ห่วง (or in engrish: I’m fine don’t worry) OMFG what an abbreviation!

Kill me please. ..

saw สบม on a ton of adds, including at BTS stations.. part of 100 pipers recent campaign.. สบายมาก haha anyway this is cool - but can you put full thai for all those abbreviations in your list.. ? I know that is a lot of work.. spread the knowledge! 555

I can’t put the full thai or the english meanings on them because I DON’T know them all. BUT I am getting a few each day from the thais I know.

I’m still waiting for the thai language experts to pipe up and let us know.

I finally took the mp3 of song, the lyrics and the abbreviations out to the food/beer shop outside my apartment gate on my soi where I sit at nite. All the locals had a great time giving me the answers and it was quite a lively discussion with them arguing over some of the meanings. A good time was had by all.

Unfortunately even though they tried to write clearly; thai handwriting is some of the most difficult to decipher script I've come across.

I'm in the process of working them out and will post them as soon as I've got 'em decoded.
