Taking A Cat From Thailand To Uk

Featured Replies

Has anyone taken a Thai cat from Thailand to UK (or Europe)?

Is it possible to get a microchip, 'passport' and rabies jabs done here and recognised in UK (or Europe)?

I had heard that it could be done via Singapore. Whether the injections and jabs were done there or not, I don't know.

Here's some info for you.

Thanks guys

Cats, like dogs and ferrets, from unlisted countries need to spend 6 months in quarantine on arrival.

More info you can find here:

Microchip and vaccines can be done in Thailand. Make sure the vet puts the vaccine label, his/her stamp and signature in the vaccination book. Not sure if a pet passport can be done here.

For export permit and health certificate (3 to 5 days prior to travel) you have to go to the Animal Quarantine Station in Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Phuket. Songkla has also a station, but not sure if they issue these documents. And also not sure about Samui.

Thanks for the infomative post Nienke. Have you done something like this?

My understanding is that even if you do the microchip, vaccines, export permit & health certificate because the cat is coming from Thailand it will still have to do the 6 months quarantine. Is that right?

Maybe a way round the quarantine would be to get the cat into an EU country (Netherlands and Germany seem friendliest/easiest) and then on to UK from there. Any thoughts on this anyone?

No, i haven't, but I know of people who did. :)

That's my understanding form the defra website.

You still have to do the bloodtest at a registered lab in the EU country where you send your cat to. With another 3 months in Thailand prior to travel after you've done the test, and 6 months in the EU before you can bring your cat into the UK.

I don't know of a way around these 6 months.

Thanks once again for your help Nienke. Looks like we both understand the regulations in the same way and the 6 months will be difficult to get around. Wonder if I can teach him to swim from Calais...... :D

how much does it cost?
