How To Export Firefox Settings

Featured Replies

...like Bookmarks, Settings, Cookies and Passwords ect to import them to another Computer with Firefox on it??

Windows Vista 32 / Firefox 3.6....

MozBackup does it very well, also Thunderbird if you have that as an e-mail client.

After installing, just run MozBackup and specify where the backup file should go. Copy it to a flash drive and with MozBackup installed on the other computer - Restore that file.

Or you can do it by simply copying the Profiles folder and profiles.ini file from your old computer at C:\Documents and Settings\*your-user-name*\Application Data\Mozilla to the same location on your new computer.

Thank you Fellas! Will try both!

The copy of the profile data information above is not quite correct. The path will look like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\4s7ubwt9.default

The part in bold will be the profile identity which will be most likely be different on the other computer as such you can't just copy the Mozilla directory directly. The files under the subdirectory 4s7ubwt9.default are the ones needed copied and put in the profile xxxxxx.default directory of the other computer. Using MozBackup takes the complications and chance of error pretty much out of the equation.

There's an add-on called FEBE, great!

Might also want to check out one called Xmarks, can back up bookmarks whenever you shut down.

Tywais, that is exactly why I suggested to copy the folder Profiles as I said in my post.  That way you are sure to copy the correct profile since the alphanumerical name of the profile (and there are going to be at least 2) doesn't tell you which is which.

So, my information is correct if you want a catch-all, fail-safe solution.  :)

Misunderstood your previous post as it appeared you meant the entire Mozilla directory. Anyway, he has great detail now how to do it. :D

Mozbackup is the way to go, not only for Firefox, but Thunderbird e-mail client as well.
