bangon04
I think one of the big questions there should be in this topic is -- are we talking about bar girls or real Thais. The former are in a business. The latter are just people. ..both are just people.. some of the best wives are former bar workers I would guess signed: time for a change Notice how the comparison often comes up - "compared to my first wife in (insert western country)..." Thai ladies are paradise if comparing with a previous financial and mental nightmare.
bangon04
if i had a pound for the amount of times ive seen a foreign guy out here on holiday with his misses, giving some thai girl the once over. and then the girlfriend gives him the dagger eyes and goes into one. id be a rich man!oh and for my 2 satangs worth, no thai girls behinds dont look big in anything they wear. hence why they never ask, "does my bum look big in this." Confucious he say: " Taking girlfriend to Thailand is like taking bucket of water to swimming pool"

StreetCowboy
8>< SNIP ><8-- Nested quotes deleted----My reply was addressing Onemans comments. Of course there are happy successful relationships everywhere, here in Thailand too. Usually based on the same ingredients..things like mutual respect and consideration. I have really great male friends here, some of which are happily married to Thai ladies, who treat women respectfully, regardless of their race. Its really quite sad to me the prejudice some may have about me, just because i am female, white, and raised in the west. However, I dont dwell on it for my normal everyday experiences in Thailand with men have been positive. PAROCHIAL HUMOUR ALERT Personally, I couldn't even care if you were a Fifer... There was another post by a chap saying he couldn't imagine being happy with 99.9% of Western women; I'll ridicule that one, before you get started - if you don't mind... a) I think that would be too many, anyway. I reckon more than two and they just start chatting amongst themselves... 1 in a thousand's not a very high target; most men claim their wives are 1 in a million. c) His lack of imagination is no reason to criticise Western women Right, your turn now... G54
After several of those relationships where they only really cared for money and in some cases they were very devious in their means to achieve it and the two who priced themselves out of the market I have found a gem. When you do find one and it can take time to weed out the others, you wonder where the good ones have been hiding. This one will do almost anything for me. She is helpful, generous and loving. Told her family I am not a money tree and that when she marries me she will not expect anything other than a good meal out with the family. When a motorbike crashed into me she negotiated for several long hours without giving in and got me 10K to repair the car. Her mother has offered to help me out financially while I am going through a bad patch. The family in general are great. On the friend side. I have one male and one female friend and I can honestly claim they are good friends and not like the leeches that claimed to be friends from before. The male friend on hearing of a different accident involving myself two drunks on a bike (where I refused to stop) took my car away and hid it under a tarpaulin before taking it the next day to be repaired at low cost. He checked to make sure the police were not at the accident site and also that they were not looking for me . He has been helpful on numerous occasions, picking me up from the airport in my car, and being there for me when my battery was flat and I needed the one from his car at 4 a.m. !! And not one grumble. The female is always on hand if I need independent advice for forms or to double check any receipts that I wanted clarification on before I was sure of the current girlfriend. Both of these have always gone out of their way to be helpful and I do the same in return. Proper friends.
heazille
This will be an eternal debate colored by everyone's personal experience. I've been married to two Southeast Asian women. Had I not met the second I would have a poor opinion of marriage to a Thai woman but now I am in the they are the best women in the world camp. I am in this camp as well! Just come out of a two year relationship destroyed by "the gambling" and maybe perhaps about to start another one. Chalk n Cheese is the best way to describe the difference between the two, it's that vast
CHINWA
Only a "newbie" would come up with a statement: Thai women are great! Good luck with that fantasy. janderton
Thai women are no different than any other women in the world, there are some minor cultural differences but nothing significant. They all want,is the same things we all want, a little respect, love, some security, happiness for them selves and their family...... to me, one SIGNIFICANT thing is the excessive parochialism... they think to be the best people worldwide. Seismic
Everything is fine and dandy until a situation pops up and i criticize other Thais. She is so protective over her people its a little OTT. Not a serious fault so I've learnt to live with it and turn a blind eye to many things i don't think is right. Whether that is right or wrong i don't know. And like she says your in Thailand now things are different....yeah yeah i know i know My wife is the opposite, Maybe because she has lived and worked abroad in europe. She is constantly upset at poor work, bad driving, rip-offs. Its usually me who has to calm her down !!

NALAK
i personally dont think they are great, do people really think they find older western guys attractive. courtships before living together are usually days not months. they see it as a way of improving their way of life and their families. i doubt many will get to silver wedding status. for a real true partner i would have a western lady anytime. just my opinion OP did ask. Boo
to all those who are bitching about ex wives, please feel free to tell them to sign up to give their side of the story oops no can't do that, might ruin the whole "poor me, (western) women bad" whining I've just had to read. 10 minutes I'll never get back. As sbk said, this topic is about thai women & what you like about them. How rude that you can't compliment the thai woman in you life without slagging off other women in the process. Numbers added to identify specific points being addressed: (1) No; hence the term "or other stereotypes" (2) By ascribing specific racial characteristics to them, assuming details of their background based on generalisations. I'm interested to hear that they do not consider themselves Thai. What ?race / nationality? do they consider themselves, as an alternative? Query by way of vocabulary improvement: Does the term "bar girl" specifically mean the girls employed by the bar, or does it also apply to the freelancers, like in Soi Seven Beer Garden? For the Moderators' benefit, I mean that by way of lexicography, and not as a specific of any particular trade. Thanks very much SC

Maybe we could have a 'Men in Thailand' section to the forum then you wouldn't need to read our sad tales of woe. .... and Boo would never have to waste 10 minutes of her life again ...... And can everyone stop being unpleasent about ladies who work in bars. I have always found bar staff in Thailand to be very friendly, and always helpful with my education (learning to speak, read and write Thai) Before everyone jumps on me, can I just state that I am not a customer and never buy lady drinks (forbidden by wife, 'buying a drink is the start of negotiations, you don't do it.'). But I often sit and chat or do my homework and have made some quite good friends. Edited March 27, 2010 by sarahsbloke

Guys, "the VAST MAJORITY of them peopIe make the most fantastic platonic friends, gf's or wivesand partners for farang.everyone." I guess for years to come peopIe wiII continue to bemoan or praise the opposite sex and cuItures based on their own personaI experiences rather than Iooking at the whoIe picture. Of course no one shouId discount their personaI expriences but summing up an entire gender, race, cuIture etc based on just that is, imo, smaII minded and unjust. Thai women are no different than any other women in the world, there are some minor cultural differences but nothing significant. They all want,is the same things we all want, a little respect, love, some security, happiness for them selves and their family. ya, probably 31 , but my ulterior motive was always similar..to TRY to somewhat debunk some negative generalizations about Thai women. Do they need money? yes Do many of them gossip? yes Do many of them have a bit of a harsh temper? yes albeit my sample was small from which to draw conclusions, a handful of gf's and then the wife , but my personal experiences have almost all been postive with them, so I had to draw the (correct or incorrect ) conclusion that many of the farang CHOOSE the wrong thai woman, then come on to TV and warn everyone to avoid relationships with them, avoid marrying them, etc. Now back in Canada with the wife, we go to a small church that has about 25 Thai women, and that small sample size encompases pretty much all socio economic types , geographic areas, attitudes, and looks.. so I agree with you.. people are pretty much the same EVERYWHERE. signed: but we are talking about Thai related things on TV eh?
