StickySh1t Posted March 30, 2010 Share Posted March 30, 2010 I am scared of driving in Thailand but really want and need to have a car - so I am considering hiring a driver to work for me. I know they are fairly cheap to employ full-time, 8,000-15,000 Baht/month or so - but I have some concerns. Namely, what will he be doing all day long when I do not need rides? Just waiting around for me to finish whatever I am doing? What about when I am at my condo, he is just sitting in the garage or outside my door or something? Is it normal to turn these guys into quasi-personal assistants, having them run errands etc? Any tips on where to find a good driver would be appreciated as well. To solve that problem, I am hiring a guy - which is doing some part time gardening at home as well - 500/day for my weekly city meetings. Usually from 9am 'till 7pm + some bonus for extra hours and petty cash for his food&drinks. At night, I just use taxis because I never know when I'll be back home. needforspeed Posted March 30, 2010 Share Posted March 30, 2010 All other things that cost you a lost off time, Buying your food and beverage Going to postoffice Paying bills Sending passport for visa Clean the car Clean the carpark area Some advice: No smoker, Need to speak some english and ask him some questions about your area where you planning to travel, this as my first driver coudnt find Sathorn road in Bangkok, and i needed to pay full time attention where he was driving to. Namely, what will he be doing all day long when I do not need rides? it's all a matter of organisation. we employ a "full-time" driver for my wife who works part-time 16-20 days a month but mostly on demand. mon = 10.00 -14.00 - washing both cars and carport, checking engine fluids and sometimes helps the gardener for a couple of hours, tue = 13.00 -17.00 - shopping, paying bills, wed = off / standby thu = 13.00 -17.00 - shopping, fri = 09.00 -11.00 - used by me, sat/sun = off/standby except when we have house guests or friends visiting Pattaya. salary = 8,000 Baht Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yours, drivers licence, woman, sexy Ps Don't forget about the high heels, dont want she is parking your car with 60 miles a hour into the nearest somtam shop. I think he might have a night job. We also get him to help filing, sticking things in envelopes etc. I have irregular hours so he gets a lot of overtime. When I was living and working in Bangkok I had a Taxi driver ALWAYS just a phone call away, easy to arrange and only cost a reasonable tip (100 Baht) per trip.
