Anyone Still Going To New Immigration Complex ?

Featured Replies

The dust has settled after 6 months in the new immigration office.

I wonder if anyone has worked out a convenient way of accessing the new office in Chaeng Wattana by public transport. Most of the information in the old thread relates to personal transport (and I don't have any, apart from the fact that I'm get dumbstruck whenever I'm at the intersection of a few expressways and flyovers).

If I take a MRT to Chatuchak, and from there via taxi, would that be the most convenient way ? I'm really afraid of having to explain to the taxi driver how to get there because I haven't been there before.

I live in Rama IX/Ratchada.

Bus number 52 goes from Mo Chit BTS to Chaeng Wattana. Have a look at this thread.

Expect there are only two normal ways for a taxi to access - one would be going toward old airport and turn left onto Chiang Watanna and you go to the CAT building and immediately turn left onto the six lane (Soi 7) after it and go to end (building on right). You can enter at main (East entry) or at end of soi 7 turn right and go the the south entry (which is where Immigration office is located).

The other approach would be the Expressway and you exit toward East (Laksi) and make a U-Turn immediately after passing CAT on the right and proceed as above.

If anything has changed in the 3 months since my last visit please correct above information.

Edit: Main entry is the East entry.

Visited the thread. Not much of help. I'm not going to take a bus because I wouldn't know where and when to alight. Just last night I spent another 60 baht after I missed my stop. :)

I'm looking to take a taxi from a MRT or BTS station, or best still, from where I live (which is Rama 9/Ratchada) but I doubt the tax drivers know the way. This is very worrying because it now seems impossible to access the new complex.

And if I'm lucky enough to find the place, could any kind soul tell me which is the building to renew my TR ?

Every taxi driver knows Chiang Watanna Road. It is not at all hard to find. It is between CAT and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs set back in the new government complex at the end of Soi 7.

I have no idea what a "TR" refers to as you do not renew tourist visas at Immigration but you could obtain a 30 day extension of stay.

Immigration is on the main (entry level) floor of the huge building at end of Soi 7 (right hand side). The office is in the south/east corner of that building.

Thanks. I meant 'extend', not renew. Yes, TR does refer to Tourist Visa. This is the abbreviation used on my Tourist Visa.

So I can just tell the taxi driver, Soi 7 Chaeng Wattana ?

I say Chiang Watanna, Soi Jet and they can at least get to the area - but most do know the soi now. CAT building is very well marked and the soi you want is immediately west of that.

Do both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration share the same building ?

Would someone be able to type out the Thai script for "Ministry of Foreign Affairs" and "Immigration Office" ?

Thank you.

No they are not the same building - Immigration is in the huge new building at the end of soi 7. Take a look in Google maps or earth - you can not miss it.

No need to be so formal. Just say to the taxi "Soon Tor Mor Chaengwattana" (ศูนย์ ตม. แจ้งวัฒนะ). Virtually any driver will know
