I am taking the night train to Nong Khai/Laos on Tuesday, hoping to be in Vinetiane by 10am (possible?) and then straight to he Thai consulate to hand in my passport and papers, what time do they stop letting people in?

you're going to be cutting it close,depending on how busy the border crossing is.I believe noon is supposed to be the cut-off time however,at the old consulate i've been stopped at 11:30.As a plan B you may want to think about two nights in V' tene.Good luck,I'll be doing the same deal by bus from CM at the end of the month.

Yes I think it will be close, I can stay 2-3 nights there if needed anyway
