A few weeks ago, a friend of mine told me to install this package (Fring) so that we could have mobile call's to each other without spending a satang.

Apparently, this program works by using the Wireless connection of the mobile.

Thus, a mobile with Wireless (WiFi) is indispensable.

As soon as you have established an Internet connection with your mobile (Wireless router or a HotSpot) you can call to another mobile who has a Wireless function or a computer who is connected to the Internet.

Something like Skype, but free.

I installed this package and tested without a SIM card in my mobile and it works.

Are there any Fring users on ThaiVisa?

Skype is free if you are both using wi-fi. i'm familiar with Fring because it's a Nokia Symbian App, but i use Skype only because it's more generally used and accepted amongst my constituents. in fact, i speak to my mother back in NY on my Nokia via skype. she's on her laptop at home on wifi and i'm in my home here on wifi.

it's pretty much the coolest.

I have not heard of Fring, but if your phone was WiFi then you can certainly use Skype to make calls.

If the recipient also has Skype, then it will be free, as are all VOIP calls

to another computer.

Take a look at http://www.fring.com

If the recipient also has Skype, then it will be free, as are all VOIP calls

to another computer.

The nice thing with Fring is that the recipient don't need to have Skype.

Fring support many Internet channels such as MSN, Google Talk, ICQ, FaceBook, etc.

Fring supports also FREE Video call's.

Internet channels are for messages, you were talking about calls...........

The receiving phone will also need Fring,

just as Skype is needed on both ends for free calls. BTW Skype can be video as well.

Skype is a well established system.

I think this diagram clarifies the situation.

I'm a little bit confused by this remark.

I had today a chat with a friend on MSN (Mobile <-> Notebook) and my friend has no Fring installed on his Notebook.

You started off by talking about phone calls.

That is where you use your voice.

Now you are confusing the matter by talking about MSN which is a chat facility,

passing messages.

Two different types of communication.

Sorry to not have specified that from the beginning.

MSN, like many other similar programs can use voice and video (Cam) to chat.

But the OP was to know if there are here on ThaiVisa other users of Fring and not the possibilities of that program.

Sorry, I did not realise that was possible.

I did look at the MSN site, but did not come across that possibility. :)

Click on "Audio and Video Setup", setup your sound and WebCam and you are ready to make "Phone-In's" like Thaksin.
