Landslide in North blocks communications

BANGKOK: -- Communications in Thailand's northern province of Nan have become temporarily paralyzed due to a landslide following hours of terrential rain.

The landslide this afternoon has blocked local communications through a main road, the Ban Tam-Ban Pa Pae Road, in the province's Muang District, according to local journalists.

Part of the road was blocked by the landslide, which also damaged agricultural sites in the area, said the journalists.

Local relief officials have been sent to remove the land.

The total damage of the incident has yet been evaluated.

The area was facing more than seven hours of heavy rain today.

This sort of thing is usually caused by deforestation of the hillsides...and quite often is illegal logging. Major problem world wide but especially in 3rd world countries. They always blame it on the rain!!
